real spoon sw388 or not?
tonight i meet some guy that wants to trade his 15" sw388s with DRs on all 4, for my 16" bronze rota c8s...
i dont know if this guy is crazy and dont know what his rims worth or if hes trying to scam me and give me some fakes.
what are some ways i can look at the rims and tell if they are real? ive read they are made by desmond or something like that and should have a sticker on them that says that.
thanks

If they are a powdery like off black look they are prob the real deal . the rota slips have more of a glossy type paint to them . its hard to explain , but id deff know them if i see them. i can tell you now , the guy is trying to get over on you. no one in their right mind would trade spoons for rotas.

I believe older SW's had a Spoon logo on one spoke (I'm not certain if it was a decal or painted, but not stamped). Try to determine if the wheels are painted/coated or not by looking for chips, flakes, etc. SW's are anodized black, so a painted wheel would be an obvious indication that they're fakes.
I found this photo that might help:

rotas have "ROTA" cast into the back area of the hub. and as was mentioned above, the spoon flat black is much more matte/flat, whereas the rotas are more glossy.
Here's a pick of my car with my rotas when they were black. If you look closely you can see that the flat black they are still has some shine to it:

I think the lip on 15" SW's and Slipstreams is pretty much the same.
However the lip on 16" Slips is the same as on the 15" slips, while 16" SW's have more of a smooth lip compared to the 15" SW's.

you CAN get spoons with the logo on the spoke, and it's painted on in yellow. i have a buddy that got some (new in box from spoon). also, the real ones have russia stamped on the back.
If you look at them side by side, it's very easy to tell the difference. Just search around here for a good picture of each one and you'll see the difference. It's mostly the stamps on the back (Russia/Desmond) and the lip.
The color won't be the distinguishing factor because I believe Rota now does have flat black as an option for color.

1. Desmond sticker on the inside
2. SW388 size sticker
3. Made in Russia stamp
4. Rota's have a small stamp toward the center on one of the spokes that Spoon's don't have
5. The real Spoon lip is straighter
6. The center section is more rounded on real Spoon's
7. Some replica's don't have the indentations on the side of the spokes like real Spoon's
8. Real 15 inch Spoon wheels weigh 3.8 kg's
9. Scraped or chipped areas will be black
I've researched this topic extensively, can you tell?
