timing belt tensioner

Default timing belt tensioner

i have a 97 accord with an h22a turbo. i had to replace my timing belt tensioner within a month of getting my car back. i talked to otehr people in my area with h22 turbos and one guy said he replaced his timeing belt tensioner 7 times in one year. another said hes on his fifth within 6 months. and i think mine is goin on me again. anything i can do about this so i wont have to run into this problem constantly???

switch to the manual tensioner off the h23

is it a hydraulic tensioner? and will it bolt right on?

H23 tensioner is spring-loaded design like the B-series engines.

The H22 tensioner is a hydraulic piston. You need a special tool that comes with a new tensioner to install them.

There's an archived post in teh Prelude forum on switching to the manual tensioner.

It's for the hydraulic tensioner, it's a retainer bracket that holds the piston down while you install the belt. After you install the belt, you remove the retainer and the piston pops out and tensions the belt.

Read for yourself. I've never had to the opportunity to do the conversion on the couple of H22's I've worked on.
