My R sometimes starts with slow cranking, and it takes a while to start....it goes something like eeeeeeeeeeeehh then starts.....what could the problem be my battery or something else...currently my mods are headers, AEM CAI and a carsound cat...but i remember this happened sometimes before i had the mods done...and it doesnt happen in the mornings, usually when i drive for a little while then stop and after 5 minute when i come back to start it up it slow cranks...what is the problem??
The starter would be my guess and that'd be the first place I'd check.
If the starter gets hot (like from an unshielded header nearby), it's internal resistance goes up... thereby requiring more CCAs to turn it at the correct speed.
Being as everyone I've ever heard of with headers (including my own unshielded Mugen number) has not experienced this problem... I'd say it's you.

We know exactly what your problem is. We have encountered this just recently.
The "teeth ring" on your flywheel has been seperated from the flywheel. The "eeeeee" you here is metal on metal. We had thought it was a starter, but had replaced it and same thing. We noticed that if you look through the vent holes on the transmission, you will NOT see the clutch spin - hence the problem.
Actually, this is usually caused by having too much power than the stock clutch/flywheel can handle.
We have seperated the "teeth ring" and shredded the clutch due to the power in our '01 R project car.
