Default coolant problem

i wasnt sure where to post this but i have a fairly large problem and i wanted to find out opinions b4 i start trying to fix this ... back in november my 2000 civic (with a b16b) over heated on a very cold night ... so i pulled over and towed it home ... now i cant get it to stop overheating ... it just goes straight up to HOT after a few mins of runnin ... so i pulled the thermostat, checked the hoses, and now i even had to check to see if the coolant was moving ... which i dont think it is because when i opened my radiator cap when i first start it the coolant isnt flowing that i can see ... i want to get my car out soon tho so can anyone help me figure out the problem ?

it might be your water pump... if the coolant isn't moving

i would say thermostat. they usually fail in one of two ways. 1 by sticking open. to check for open thermostat, allow the engine to cool completely, and remove the radiator cap. start the engine and obsereve the coolant in the radiator. if the coolant immediately starts circulating, it is syuck open, but in your case u say u did't see any coolant moving right ? 2 by sticking closed. to check, allow the engine to cool completely, and then refill the radiator, if necessary. start the engine and allow it to warm up. engine normally takes about 5 min to become warm. IF THE ENGINE IMMEDIATELY BEGINS TO OVERHEAT, THE THERMOSTAT IS PPROBABLY STUCK CLOSED AND COOLANT IS'NT FLOWING THROUGH THE ENGINE. WHICH IS YOUR CASE....
