is there a way to clean it up of all the dirt? its pretty dirty. previous owner of the integra probably put cheap gas in it. maybe replace the filter?

just curious...but, what made you take out the back seat, and open up the gas tank to see the fuel pump ?

See if the pump is an OE or aftermarket unit. Whichever it is, contact them and see if you could get a replacement for it.

I see. Well, sounds like you may want to replace it then. Who knows how long that filter has been dirty. I could've been clogged for a long period of time, causing the pump to work twice as hard to fight the dirt.

Just a though.

Wow, I can't believe this thread. Why does everyone care why, or how you found out about it...

It's just an inlet screen. If it's dirty, clean it or replace it. It sounds like you've already taken it out of the tank. Don't put it back in dirty. You can wash it & dry it in less time than it takes to get on the computer & argue about it...

Then check around inside the tank, look for more dirt. If there's lots of crud in the tank, then take off the tank & clean it. That's gonna be the big job.

just get a new strainer. it's like 10 bux. dropping the tank is prob one of the messiest jobs evar, if your car is 10year or older there's bound to be tons of dirt sludge grime all hidden up on the tank.

its probably not a bad idea to get a new strainer since the tank is already out. your car will show its appreciation on the first drive around the corner

good luck.
