Invest in a repair manual for your car.

You have 2 shift control solenoids, they are located on your transmission housing at the top. One is for upshift and one is for downshift.

You sure that's how they work? I thought there was more to it than that.

there is a hell of a lot more to it than that. a series of clutches, gears, blah blah blah.

its a mess inside of an automatic tranny

I mean just the operation of the solenoids.

Actually, I have a haynes manual, but it didn't say anything about this solenoid or anything about the TCM at all. Also I replaced them with two from an older transmission that worked fine, and the problem still persists. Could the TCM be the problem?

Also is it required to reset the TCM after doing a test, because I think I forgot to do it.. What's the resetting for?

Oh.. the Haynes manual didn't say both of them were for upshift and downshift, instead it mentioned one was the shift control solenoid and one something like lock-off control solenoid or something.. something for the torque converter..

Is the light still coming on? Reseting it will clear the code.

Maybe I was misinformed about that whole upshift/downshift thing.

You should try to reset the TCM, I assume you would follow the same procedure as resetting the ECU. If the problem persists, I would check the ground connection to the TCM.

I reset it, for some reason my car still won't shift right.. I have to manually put it in each gear [which i feel isn't a good thing].. Anyone think it's the TCM?

bah, he hasn't posted for over a year and he'll probably never be back...

it would still be nice if somebody had experience fixing this "shift control system" problem some auto trannys seem to get. The dealer said they'd fix it,... with a brand new tranny.
