Default Non-Honda: Re-Did my IC Piping on the Colt GT

now i realize this isn't a big deal to most of you...but i'm just getting into dsm's. the previous owner of my car had the IC piping running the opposite way...making it a lot longer than it had to be. the problem, was with the battery and with the mirage/colt there is limited space in the engine bay.

i decided to move the battery to the back of the car at the same time in order to make everything work. IC piping is still small, and isn't all hard pipe although it will be once i go to a fmic.

a picture of the engine bay before...as you can see the battery takes up a lot of space...and the IC piping is backwards.

sweet! you should post a few more of the car

my brother talon (in the sig) just blew up today, bad rings.. probably from running 20 PSI of boost on pump gas all day long on an older motor.. 2g pistons time :-)

Would be nicer if the entire picture would fit on my screen at once

I'm interested though. Hopefully you can leverage some honda knowledge on the DSM and some DSM knowledge on the Honda.

in 1989 1500 dodge colt gt/mirage turbo's were made.

they came with big brakes (same size as gsr), larger front sway bar (24mm), and a 1.6 liter version of the 4g63. externally, they are the same motor and a 4g63 bolts right in. the wiring is also identical so the swap is as easy or easier than a d to b-series swap.

Them little cars can be badass, ive seen 2 or 3 at the track running 12s. Only thing that scares me about that swap is all the vacuum lines, was it a PITA?

BTW: Typical dsm valve cover, covered with oil and grease

here are a few pics of the car...

and the oil cap doesn't seal well. it really needs a new gasket...plus the turbo blows a little bit of oil as well. the engine bay is definitely not as clean as a honda...but it makes amazing power. with a 16g and my current setup i should be at 275whp.

and there aren't too many vacuum lines...it just takes patience to understand where each line goes.

On the engine bay pics it looks like the car is rhd because of the master cylinder placement, but then it looks lhd on the last pics. whats up with that?

a friend of mine has one... hes on 4g61t.com or whatever. drove it with the 14b on stock wastegate pressure.... W0W. thing i love most about it is the flowmaster muffler with bling bling tip and the "F3AR THIS" sticker from autozone on the rear hatch. deffinatly the ultimate sleeper. your car looks awesome, keep up the good work!

i have a 89 mirage turbo with a 4g63t in it. with a t3 turbo and 3" exhaust i made 220 hp and 220 tq at 14psi. i see you have the 2g exhaust manifold. is yours a 7bolt or a 6bolt 63t? i also noticed the evo2 wheels. i like.

here is a pic of mine before the 63t swap.

here is my 63t on the stand

my car weighs in at 1828 with me in it.

i have a new 50-1 t3-t4, tail 35mm, and spearco at the shop ready to go on. but i broke the 2nd gear shift fork in the tranny racing a camero ss a few weeks back. so i gotta get the new tranny in first. i alos am going to get a set of 550s soon.]

i thought i would never find a car as foun to drive as my old crx but i love this thing just as much. and nobody knows anyhting about them. i get people asking what it is after i woop on them

yup mitsu left the master cyl on the rhd side. there is no room for it on the lhd side.

the motor is from a 90 laser, so its a 6-bolt.

and the wheels are from a lancer evo1...probably the same as a lancer evo2...although i don't really know.

I just got my Colt GT today also but don't have pics yet and still a work in progress. Has a JDM 4g61T engine on it, for some reason the previous owner swapped this in instead of the 63T. Do you know of any differences between the JDM and USDM version of the 61T?? And about how much power can the 61T make with basic bolt ons and maybe 14B turbo upgrade? Thanks, looks like we have quite a few 89 turbos in here now.

FWD

congrats on your c50 (aka mirage) the jdm 61t is just like the stock usdm one but i think it had the cyclone intake mani. i have seen 61ts with 300 hp but that was with some good cash thrown at them
