Default I'm new at this...and dammit I need answers.

I've never owned a honda in my life....so I'm thinking about buying a prelude from someone who I know and trust....and rebuilding the engine which i'm pretty sure suffered in a timing belt snap. I have many questions about this...I'm an AMERICAN truck girl...so this really is foreign territory to me...I've driven his 93 prelude and liked it...so here i go into the car world. The deal is this....it's an 86 prelude si witha b20a1 engine in it. I'm yet to pull off the valve cover and inspect, but I'm wondering a few things.
A) If I wanted to put in another engine should this one require a trip to the dump, Would that be possible? It's jap spec and I don't know the difficulties in transferring all that crap over. BTW...I'll be doing most of this myself...so says i...with help from him, so mechanics are out.
B) It was like 10ft from a driveway when the t belt snapped, is it possible that very little if any damage was done....(praying that's the case).
C) Where in the hell can I find replacement parts for this...Do they ALL have to be from JAPAN?

Help me figure this out....please.

A - many people on this board are selling engines. i know that John D has a B20 block (possible a full engine) that he is trying to sell. it shouldnt need a trip to the dump at all unless the internals are totally jacked all over.

B - most likely bent valves. so you will want a whole new valve train in there if that is the case. Gude makes performance parts for the B20 but their customer service has lost them customers, so i would stay clear of there.

C - http://www.google.com and the search function on the upper right hand corner of this page are your best friends. just search for B20 and see what comes up. it may take some time but all the parts you will need are out there and redily available.

HTH. Good luck and welcome to the board.

I would buy a 4th gen prelude if possible.

otherwise I would drop a JDM engine in there complete. I'm not sure what engine that is as I don't know much about an 86, but it's Si (Fuel injected) so you shouldn't have much trouble.

I don't want a new one...I'm not really buying this car for any purpose other than gas mileage....and it's fast... I like fast...my truck's fast...for what it is anyway...
If I'm going to spend a few grand on a car....I'll buy something else...A bigger truck probably...although...my friends brother bought a pretty nice civic the other day...I don't know...I'm still leary of cars in general...All I've ever had has been Broncos. But they're better for me then cos i lived up a 4x4 trail...no way would a prelude make it. I'm going to keep my baby bronco...and supe up this little old prelude...fix the damage he did to it...i think I can do it for under a grand....I hope the valves aren't trashed...that would make my day.

Thanks for the welcome.

Well likely you need to do a timing belt water pump and replace some valves. New head gasket and you should be rolling.

Best thing to do with be a compression test to see if valves are bent.

If it has a broken timing belt, the valves are most likely trashed. The pistons could be in question too. However, people sell H23 heads and pistons for not too much money. You can pick up these parts and rebuild it pretty easily.

If you have to replace the pistons, you might want to look into getting USDM or JDM H22 pistons. It's a good way to raise the compression of the motor to get a few more HP. JDM H22 pistons have 0.6 more compression than the USDM H22 pistons.

The 4th gen Prelude (The one you are looking at) is a really fun car. I think you will like it.

Good luck.

What are you talking about?
I'm talking about an 86...not with an h23...with a b20a1...
The H's aren't interchangeable are they?

We have a 93 with an h22...it's running fine...

Right then...how do i do that? I've never had to do that before....also...car is not running...It needed a new radiator before it broke...i don't know what else is wrong...I can't really remember...Of course everyone else would say it's cos i don't listen...but whatever... Also...my friend just told me that i can put another b20 head on and won't lose the specs... easier than a valve job he says...is that true? cos...i can't reply anymore...i'm still a newbie...
