Default kenwood cd player issue..installation help.

have a Kenwood KDC-PS809 Excelon CD Receiver that i recently bought. I tried installing it into my 97 Honda civic. Black is ground, red is accessory, and yellow is constant. I couldn't get the Player working. Only way was to wire the kenwood red and yellow wire to the car accessory wire, but the problem with that was the mask faceplate wouldn't hide when i take the key out the ignition, and the memory would reset. I tried reversing the red, and yellow wires, but that didn't work. And i tried hooking both the kenwood red and yellow wire to the car's constant, but that didn't work. I even ran a wire straight to the battery for the constant, and the cd player still wouldn't power on. I used a 12volt regulator to check if the kenwood is working, and it works fine, but not in the car. is there something i'm missing with the installation? I need to get this installed by tomorrow, so quick responses would be great! thanks

may be a dumb question but are you using an adapter harness for are you hard wiring the deck to the factory wiring???

I dont think you would have these problems if you used the OEM to aftermarket adapter.
