i know this kid that cut down his stock suspension springs ... is that a good or bad idea to do if your on a budget? and why?
thanks

i also did that back in the day cause i was making less money than i am now. the car actually road pretty good, it was a honda. i cut about 2 coils all around, drove fine and the camber wasn't to bad either. now lowering springs are cheaper than than like six years ago, but it was free to cut my springs.

this is the first time I heard of people cutting their coils and having a comfortable ride. Even cutting 1 coil will significantly drop your car. but yea I dont think its worth it, just shell out for some aftermarket springs

If you cut your springs, then hit a big pot hole or bump the spring can unseat.
If your going at speed then this could cause a big f*kup. Not worth it at all. The Kid's either misinformed or a dumbass

what car is it on. i've got some springs i'll let go for next to nothing. they are off of my 94 hatch. don't know what brand, but they werent bad at all. only lowered it by like an inch and ahalf or so. dont cut your goddamn springs.
my best friend's neighbors all cut their springs...i know it isn't a good thing to do but they're like professionals at it haha
I personally hate the idea, though it can work out great. I worked at a frame shop for a few years and the frame twisting guy there used to chop a few sets of springs a week. Mind you this was for guys with BMWs, Mercedes, etc... Always boggled my mind why these guys were so cheap they didn't just spring for springs, but I never saw one of them come back with a complaint, he was extremely good at it and had the sense not to go nuts with the chop job.

when i got my car it hade cut springs on it. i hated them, they were the first thing i replaced. when i shifted it bounced like crazy. i would never recomend it to any ony unless you just want your car to look better and never drive it....
Bouncing during hard shifting sounds more like the springs were under damped, but that could be a symptom of too short spring travel as well at least with those particular dampers. Overall chopping springs is a dubious fix at best imo.
neuspeed springs are about 150 bucks...good ride and great look...not to low not to high and a nice smooth ride...and i'm sure you can install them yourself...it's not too hard...don't cut corners on your car...or it will cost more to fix later

A friend of mine DIED a couple of years ago when a cut suspension spring came unseated, and the car flipped over a retaining wall and down a bank.
So don't cut your bloody springs. :!:

damn...i remember when i bought those weapon R coilovers for my very first civic and cut 2 loops off of them and then turned the coilover all the way down...i might still have the pics somewhere on my computer. It looked badass until you actually had to drive it somewhere...hahaha. Cut springs are so "O.G." like 5 or 6 years ago.
