Default Tachometer question

I was wondering if anyone has had there rpm tach bounce around and go wild while they are driving? Mine will sometimes be normal and sometimes not. Someone told me that it was a voltage problem, if it is, what does that mean, and how do i fix it?

ive had that suddenly happen and it was my voltage crapping out on me. which meant my altenator took a poo. but it could be many things. usually something which is an easy fix

ok well it could just be u need to ground it right because mine jumps up and down in the higher rpm and the distributor and components are new and its not the alternator make sure its grounded to a good ground and re check the wiring...

I've read a lot of posts that point to the ignitor or loose connections. I'm having the same problem but the odd thing about mine that I haven't seen anyone mention is mine stops after a bit. When I first get in it jumps but as I go through each gear winding it up to redline the problem lessens until it works fine. If I go over bumps or such it doesn't come back, only when I start the car after it's been sitting for a few hours.

my rpm's only bounce when i put it in neutral at high rpms, then when i downshift and come to a stop, it stops, but i know the reason for that being, its because it only does it when i turn my idle up.

I had the same problem. I replaced the ignitor it was good for a while then it would keep doing it again. I think it also had something to do with my misfire. But now I don't worry about it cause my car is in Pittsburgh while I'm in Japan and I'm having an engine built while I'm gone so I don't have to worry too much about it now.

yeah if u ground it to the ignition switch (the metal around it) and just hold it their. u will notice it wont jump around at high rpm...

thats because its a SUPER good ground... see if u can ground it to something just like it... electrical tape didnt work for me trying to hold it down because im using a thiiiiccckkk wire ground.. not that little ****..

well try this in order:
ground wires
cap
rotor
ignitor
altenator.

I had the same problem on my bros auto civic
it was just the rotor.
Also FYI igitors are fucken expensive.... and non refundable once you open it
