Default EXPO 4: Back on the horse . . .

I'd like to start by apologizing for reducing my postings about the Expo due to a prior incident. I would like to be sure everyone understands that I was not withholding information but that I did not want to release info without actual fact behind it. There has been plenty of speculation about Summit Point but without substantial evidence (Word from the track or NASA backing out of dates) we had nothing but rumors.

I assure you everything you guys knew or heard I was hearing as well so anything you thought a little birdie told you a birdie with the same message told me. As soon as I was comfortable that what we had was the truth/Fact I tried to convey that. I am doing this for a few reasons. First, I like organizing events. I have been organizing a driving school in the south since 2001 and felt like I could help us have a good event. Second, I want the Expo to be the best it can be and for everyone to have a great time. This is why I work so hard on it. Third, I would like to see ITRCA develop and become a true organization that we can all use to our benefit so I won’t deny that I want it to bring notoriety to ITRCA.

That said I just want everyone to be clear that ITRCA makes no money from sponsors since their advertising is part of your Expo sponsorship benefits. I have paid for the site domain and server out of my pocket for the last 2 years and plan to do so for the distant future. The Site isn’t terribly expensive so don’t feel that I am the least bit upset by this. I not only work hard on the Expo but there are several of us that work hard to make ITRCA a good site.

There is one issue at hand so please read fast as this post may be gone before you finish. Ever since I made my post about not posting info on Honda-Tech one of our own ITR owner/members has been working against me to ensure information is removed from Honda-Tech’s servers. Almost in an effort to sabotage the Expo although they would claim this not to be the case. I am not sure if it is something I did to them specifically by disagreeing with them or if something else set them off but it is highly likely this post will disappear as well. If it does please know that I tried to bring the info back and that it will still be available elsewhere.

Now onto the real business at hand. . . This is our Expo so I am always open to ideas and suggestions. I do have many details planned out and underway most of the time so sometimes it might be hard to change directions based on an idea. That said if you do have an idea please don’t hesitate to contact me. I do try and run a tight ship, some might call me a control freak, but I am only trying to ensure I have paid attention to the details to make sure the event is successful. I am not trying to take anything away from anyone but please trust that I have my bases covered as best I can.

The tracks have been a complete fiasco this year for me. I tried with all my might to take the Expo back west and was very disappointed that we could not keep it at Arizona Motorsports Park. We lucked out and Summit Point gave us a weekend date at their new track. We now know it was because there was a high likelihood that the track would not be completed. I have yet to receive that call I was promised on March 25 so please know I am not withholding info. We were lucky to have built a great rapport with BeaveRun last year and they were happy to have us back. They have 2 dates for us and based on the response it looks like July 23/24 is the date we will use if we have to move. I would have really liked to take us to a new/different track and even take it back out west but with the set backs we have already seen I felt BeaveRun was our best bet at a successful Expo in 2004.

I do have one request. We all know the “bandwagon” exists here and I do appreciate your thanks. BUT as much as like the attention, sometimes it isn’t warranted in the amounts it is given and lots of other people and factors make the event great. Please remember people like Dave ROR, our Sponsors (Whom I have few of that I have not announced with all the track hoopla) and others working with me making this happen. I don’t want to be thanked just because it is the cool thing to do. I do this because I like it as much as anything else. I get to meet great people and watch the community enjoy itself from a unique perspective so it isn’t as thankless as it may seem.

I would like to ask everyone to remember that we do this for the community sprit and with that encourage everyone to rally around the Expo in the next few days as we release more info about what out final plan will be. Remember that this is still a grassroots event that is about the Type-R and that we are just all about fun.

Thanks!

Trey

for Trey. for keeping us all updated and nice enough to co-ordinate

Unfortunately, if its back at Beaver, i'm not sure if i'll be attending. Great expo, just the track design seemed to leave something to be desired.

Are any other tracks in particular (perhaps later in the year) being looked at by yourself Trey?

Soup, I called the places we had originally considered (VIR, MidOhio, BeaveRun) and NONE had the dates they originally offered us. BeaveRun had a cancelation that we were offered with opem arms. I would be lying if I told you I wasn't a bit gunshy about trying to find a track we had not been to before after the last 2. We gould go to the Talladega GP track but we woudl be limited to about 35 drivers total .

I'm sorry you didn't care for the track last year. Hope you at least come for the fun and hang out this year if you don't drive.

Trey

Thank you Trey for standing up to the plate and setting everything straight. You and others involved have worked hard to try to make this happen at SP. But again, this WILL happen and I will support the TYPE-R community anyway i can. I really hate the side BS that is going on, so lets move on from that and get back to EXPO 04!

Thanks,
Victor

No call from Summit Point to date. We have made no final decision but I hate to think if Summit Point promised it would be done and then 2 weeks before the Expo there was a "problem" that would be the death of Expo 4 for sure.

I will get everything together and give you guys more details Monday. If I don't hear soemthing from SP by then I will have a new Expo page made up and get us new hotel and banquet accomodations.

Alright...interesting that they haven't called you back, but I can understand with someone being busy, it could have been a simple oversite. I'm still hoping for the track to be ready, as I'm really looking forward to driving out there for the itrEXPO.

Thanks for the update.

Thanks for all the hard work Trey.

It sucks that I won't be able to attend Expo 4 if it's moved to BeaveRun. It's not because we've been to BeaveRun. I just can't take time off during that weekend.

Even though some of the other people involved in the planning and decisions with the Expo are sometimes left out in the thank you's, Im hope they know we appreciate everything that ALL OF YOU are doing to get this thing organized and underway

As far as SP goes, have you set a date yourself with which you will decide for the move if you still have not heard from SP?

I would hope that SP was completed since Im sure many of last years attendees dont want to drive the same track. As for myself, it doesnt matter much since this is going to be my first Expo and just hope it isnt cancelled altogether for 2004.

Looking forward to hearing a final decision

Thanks trey and company, I know you guys have it all under control.

Seriously though, I really wish SP would step up to the plate and pave that dam track already. Enough with the drama, I was really looking forward to that new track.

BTW, 23/24 would be great

Expo 4 WILL happen

The anticipation is killing me, I hope it doesn't get moved but if it does I'm gonna try my darndest to make it wherever it is. BeaveRun is closer but Summit looks mighty appealing. Thanks for the update

That weekend I was going to be back in Ohio anyway with the fam...maybe pops will bring the 35' coach & we'll make our own campsite

FYI...Anybody who wants to badmouth Trey or the efforts that have gone into the Expo can kiss my lilly white _ _ _. I've only seen 3 people step up to the plate to put the Expos (1-4) together. If you haven't done it before & you're bitching, just save yourself the embarassment & shut the trap. my .02

I'll be at the BEAV!

Looks like I owe some people an apology, but I'm sure that probably wouldn't be enough.

At least the tide has somewhat turned wrt depending on the completion of the Shenandoah Circuit and the Expo ship can make its way into some other safe harbor, such as BeaveRun.

Thanks Trey.

What ever the outcome is, I'll stand behind Trey and the crew.
If I can switch the time off from work- then I'll be there.
I'm looking foward to EXPO 4 Madness!
