chance to get either an 88 crx hf or 88 crx si. which would u choose?
just looking for some general input.
i am looking to buy a crx. i came across two good deals.
the first:
88 crx hf rolling chasis
$350
i did some work on this car myself and i know the owner. i havent seen it in a couple yrs at least, but i suspect the rust on the rear quarters is getting bad. i live in new england. it has a new windshield, new driv side wheel bearing, the engine harness is already wired for a gsr motor, si seats, and a couple other small things.
the second:
88 crx si
$300
found this car for sale locally. it says for parts...i haven't talked to the owner yet but i assume t is due to the rust. on those stupid plastic rocker panels on the bottom of the doors there is a good deal of rust developing. it rotted through at a couple points. it's not terrible, but i suspect that is why it is being let go for parts. has 169k and its completely stock. has two brand new toyo snow tires in front. it's in ok shape. what u'd expect for a 16 yr old new england car. this is all i know about it so far.
both have good interiors. whichever one i choose will be used for my 2.0 liter gsr n/a build.
any input would be appreciated. pros/cons of each? which would you choose?
thanks

I'd get whatever was in better condition. Seems to be the hf from your post, which is already wired for the engine you want to use. The only advantages I see for the si is that it has better brakes and I think you don't need to swap in Si hubs, but if the car had a gsr in it before it must have the Si hubs...

yea the owner of the HF is removing the DA hubs he has on it. i do, however, have a pair of DA front hubs laying around that i can use. apparently the crx was driving fine with the DA hubs.
i checked the weights on hondaswap. not sure how accurate this reference is, but it gives the Si 200lbs on the HF. HF 1819...Si...2014.
I've owned a 91 crx si and an 89 hf prior to this so i know first hand the weight diff...but of course i had the porkiest crx of them all...the 91 si. i was figuring the 88 si couldn't have that much of a weight diff over the hf. aside from sunroof, rear wiper, a/c, maybe more sound deadening tar...what else can it have to give it 200 more damn lbs?
and also...does anyone know if the rear suspensions on the 88 hf and si are the same?

I'm pretty sure the suspension is the same, I think the si might have a rear swaybar. Also I'd choose the hf because it doesn't have a sunroof, for the less weight and the fact that those things rust so bad and leak, which could be another headache.

yea that and they can become an electrical hassle (as did my 91 si's sunroof) or bind up with dirt. well another vote for the hf...nice.
i almost wish i could afford both so i could bless the hf with some of the goodies from the si. hmmm.
any more opinions would be appreciated.

How do the crx hf's weigh that much less?I have a 90 dx crx and i have stripped it removed everything inside.Carpet and everything, just have the dash currently and 2 seats. Also removed ac,windshield washer fluid,
front bumper support, tons of misc plastic pieces.I was gonna get rid of the tar,i also removed my antenna and shaved it and i have a 2lb sun roof, thats not powered.I was wondering if there was anything else? Its pretty bare now.Im sure i was forgetting lots of things,

well, i am skeptical of those vehicle weights on hondaswap. i had my 91 crx si gutted as well..no interior just dash and 2 seats, no a/c, most of the tar removed, etc. never took off the front bumper supports tho. too dangerous for me. but i took it to a truck stop with just the driver seat (pass seat was removed at the time) and it weighed 1980lbs.
so this is why im skeptical because it says the 91 si weighs in at 2174lbs stock. i dont know how i could have dropped that much weight off it.

that can't be right.

I say get the hf, because they are just over 1800 lbs and I know for a fact the hf your speaking about has been in a garage for almost a year so it's seen no snow or even rain in a long time.
Plus it's mine so....

with out reading all the post above, I say HF!
I have a Si, and ,well. I really don't care to much for the sunroof.

hehehe. yea i am leaning towards still getting your hf. i just unexpectedly found this Si for sale in northampton...when i saw the price, $300, i was like damn! how could this happen. two crx's, the same year, for basically the same price. if anyone here is interested in it, i could forward the phone #. i want to come down soon to RI to check the crx out before i make my final decision
yea that's what im leaning towards i think. the hf. also less electrical crap to go wrong. my 91 si was a big electrical anamoly (sp). drove me up the wall.
