Default Q: Compression Test on V-Tec according to Haynes Manual?

94, Accord
4 cyl., V-Tec
160,000

I recently got an Accord and wanted to do a compression test on the engine. I picked up a Haynes Manual until I could get better information. Haynes says I need to remove the center coil wire and ground it. The problem is that when I looked at the distributor cap there was no center coil wire.

A local auto repair shop told me to look under the distributor to locate the coil wire. However, a Honda service rep told me there is no coil on the 1994 V-Tec, and told me to remove the cable going under the distributor. So, the question is, regardless whether there is a coil or not, do I still need to ground this "under-the-distributor-cable/coil?"

Haynes says the reason this is done on modern vehicles is to prevent damage to the computer system/ign system ... or something similar to that.

Anyone know what I need to do?

thanks,
diyer

Pull the ECU fuse. That will disable the ignition and fuel systems. Haynes manuals suck.
