suggesion on suspension
ok well ive got a blown shock on the rex and i might as well replace them all since they are all kinda old anyway. now i want nice shocks, not some pieces of **** that either perform like **** or dont last for ****. im also looking for something that would be a nice combo with my springs (GC). i know koni yellows would be the best, but i dont have 500 to shell out on shocks. i was looking at tokico illuminas but im unsure as to how pleased i will be with the ride/performance. adjustability is also something i want. im really looking for performance over ride comfort but i dont want my car to be all bouncy and ****. any other suggestions on shocks?
also another thing i want to know is if there is a way to know what the spring rates are on my springs. i did not purchase them nor did i have them installed. like previously stated they are Ground Control coilovers. can i check the part number or anything? or are they on the spring itself?
this is not a thread for everyone to post up what their suspension setup is and how you like your shocks and blah blah blah. im looking for answers based on a more technical sense. also, while everyones opinion is appreciated, im more looking for answers from people who know a good bit about suspensions and what is good and what is not, not neccessarily going by how it looks or anything.
oh and if you are going to tell me to buy a "real" suspension like full coilovers or something, just keep it to yourself. im not made of money and i simply dont have it to spend at this point in time (not saying i wont go with full coilovers someday
)
well thanks in advance for everyones and anyones advice/opinions/suggestions

Well....Ive heard some wishy washy stories involving tokico's.......from what Ive heard and seen, they arent a bad ride, but they dont always last long, some people get lucky but depending on how low you dump your rex it will decrease the life of them drasticly.
I too want koni yellows but im saving up for them since they are worth it.
Koni reds are alot cheaper and a great shock, id also look into kyb-agx's....or some bilstiens.
As far as your springs go, alot of times manuf. will print the springs rates on the spring.....look first otherwise yes the part number if you can find that will allow you to call GC and they should be able to tell you what you have.

thanks for the reply. ive looked at kyb as well but ive always seen them as a generally low quality shock and not much performance. if im wrong please do correct me, thats just the general concensus i get from others...
and my car isnt too low, like 2 finger fender wheel gap.
can anyone give any info on the koni reds? or bilstiens(never even heard of them)?
thanks.

If your coilovers are for a civic/crx they will have 8k (~450lb) front and 6k (~337lb) rear rates. So you dont NEED something like yellows but they would be a good idea, especially if you plan on going pretty low (like lower than 1.5"). I wouldnt get illuminas, if you are willing to spend that much you might as well spend the extra few bucks and get yellows.
I dont know anything about the reds or the bilsteins except the reds are a pain in the *** to adjust (gotta pull them outta the car) and the bilsteins are non adjustable.

i dont intend to slam my car, i dont know how low exactly it is, but its like 2 finger gab between the wheels and the fender. whatever that means, lol.
thanks for your help, you have been very informative. what would you suggest? im looking for a moderate shock for a reasonable price, adjustability isnt NECESSARY but its nice to have, im really in the dark, just looking for a point in the right direction. thanks again, keep em comming

Front:
27949
0700.250.0400
Rear:
37071B
GC180.64.44
what do these numbers mean?

ok i did a little research and here is what i cam up with this:
the front says 0700.250.0400 and from what i gather, this means 7" tall, 2.5" diameter, and 400lb rate. right?
the rear says 180.64.44. i found this to be in metric (180mm tall, 64mm diameter, and 44Nm) which translates to 7" tall, 2.5" diameter, and 250lbs rate.
does this sound right?
if it is then i have like 400lb-in/250lb-in rates or 7.14kg-mm/4.46kg-mm rates. for one is this good? (you can tell i dont know much about suspension, lol) and what struts or shocks would be good with this?
thanks everyone.

would the KYB AGX's be a bad combo? i mean its like 400 shipped for them with strut boots, and nearly 600 for the koni yellows w/o boots. im just hesitant about the KYB's cause im not sure how much performance and/or ride quality they will offer
