Accord Cat Converter is there anyway to not buy stock?
Anybody have any luck changing a 98 Cat Coverter without having to buy the stock cat? Does it turn off you check engine light and pass smog?
Thanks
Thanks
first of all why don't you tell us what's going on? Who told you you had to change your convertor?
If your situation dictates, you might be able to swing a free replacement.

yes....u cant get a "high flow" cat for your model, w/ an o2 bung.....but why waste $200 for that when u gain almost no power.....its not worth it
take the thing off, pound it w/ a metal pole and a hammer and knock all the guts out and it'll be nothing more than a tin can in a matter of 15 min. Not legal but oh well, **** the system

Ive seen them crap out as early as 25000 miles. The ECU checks the operation of the cat on every drive cycle. If it's performance is out of range on three consecutive checks, it willo turn on the MIL and store a code. P0420 (67)

going back to the origional topic of this thread....
dude, just get an OEM cat.....an "aftermarket" one aint gonna do **** for you (in terms of making power), and if u need to pass emissions, you cant have a gutted/test pipe.....
you could of course run a test pipe/something else related to it, and then just switch in an OEM cat a few days before you go for ur emisions testing

Thanks for all the info.
All that I want to do is to turn off the damm check engine light and pass smog. I had the code pulled and it is a bad cat. I have been running with the check light on
for almost 3 years and I just found out it is bad for gas mileage. Anyhow, a cheeper solution is great!!! I do not want to shell out 600 bills for another cat.

i believe Honda has a lifetime warranty on emission parts and/or 7 year warranty on cats...so 2004-1998 = 6 years so go talk to your local dealership if the information i am providing is correct
