si tranny rpms/mph
i picked up a si tranny and put it in my car this week along with a new exedy clutch. i finally got done today and went to drive it, but it doesnt pull like i thought it would. what rpms should i be turning in 5th gear at 70 mph? the car is doing 3400-3500 rpms at 70 in 5th. i think i may have gotten screwed and gotten a dx transmission! how many rpms should it be doing if its a si @ 70. thanks

Doesn't really matter since the VSS is in the tranny. Wheel size only matters when you're dealing with actual ground speed, not the speed indicated by the gauge cluster.
When the speedo is reading 70mph, with an Si transmission the tach should be reading 3400 RPM and with a DX transmission it should be reading 3100 RPM.
You have an Si tranny.

You definitely have an Si tranny.
There isn't an insanely huge difference between the two; all the gear ratios are the same except for the final drive - the Si FD (4.25:1) is 9.5% shorter than the DX FD (3.88:1) so each gear should feel just a little quicker.
D-series transmissions really aren't short at all. The Si tranny is about equivalent to a B-series "LS" tranny in terms of gearing, which is crappy. The Si tranny is as good as you can get for a D-series though without resorting to hybrid gearing (i.e. ZC gears with an Si FD) or an aftermarket final drive (i.e. ATS 4.73:1).
Or you could just go B-series, have a shorter tranny AND more power.

well atleast i know that its really a Si, i thought it felt a little stronger but i also thought maybe it was the new clutch because my old one was ****! lol, but i think maybe i expected it to be geared like a b16 tranny or something. im just glad its really a Si tranny and i didnt get duped because its a pita to take out lol
thanks

yea there is a casting number on the tranny near the passenger axle. its a small circle.. if i remember correctly my si reads pl3 over 3000, whereas on my dx the bottom number started with an "a". it may be that if your using a stock tach that it could be off 2-300 rpms.. im using aftermarket tach
