Default Cracking sound from engine

Hi,

When I rev my engine and listen closely to the engine, I can hear sharp cracking sounds from the valve compartment I guess. I just had a valve adjustment done. What could be the problem?

the car is a 99 Honda Accord EX 4 Cyl.

you sure its from the valve and not the header? usually cracking sounds are caused by cold metal getting warmed up... but if its from the valve area, have you noticed anything strange after the valve adjustment? loss of power? etc etc.. if so bring the sucker back to the mechanic... make sure he leaves it to cool off for like 3 hrs or over night before he does the adjustments.

Describe the problem a bit more..

Is a cracking noise when the engine is reved or after it is reved?

Is it a bunch of cracking like rice crispies, or just one crack?

Is it when it is hot, cold, or all the time?

Well the problem is part of a bigger story, check this post of mine

https://honda-tech.com/zero...11835

Let me describe the problem a little better. Yes there is a drastic power loss. But right now, the valves are adjusted to the exact specs (by me) and all nuts torqued correctly (the lock nuts are torqued it to correct specs first and then 2 ft-lbs tighter than specs... but would that matter, I really did not notice them turning at all)

What do you mean by the header?

There does not seem to be a particular pattern, but it does happen once in a while when it is being revved high, also when there is a drastic change in the revving.

It is a single sharp crack something that would sound when metal hits metal and it is really painful to hear!!

I noticed it when the engine was warming up, tried repeating it today when it was really hot but did not succeed. What about misfiring?

I seem to be bogged by problems..

Please help.
