Default b16a into 89 civic - anyone not used a mount kit?

swapping a B16A from a '90 JDM integra Xsi into a '89 civic...

do i have to use a mount kit or can i use the stock mounts from the Integra?

has anyone tried this? is it too much hassel?

i have already installed a B16A in a 83 Prelude, but had to weld some chassis mounts in...

are the gearbox mount and front engine mount going to line up OK? i have eyeballed it and think so...

any suggestions appreciated

no offence man, but i have read the FAQ and i could not find any links relating to the non-use of a mount kit in a 89 Civic when swaping a B16A in...

if you are certain that this answer is in there, could you please assist by pointing out which part of the FAQ relates to my question?

thanks!

Seeing you are from down under. If the car has a D series engine in it then yes you'll need a mount kit. If the car has a b16a then it will be a direct swap.

no, you don't. but you have to cut off the US passenger side upper transmission mount and relocate it further forward in the engine bay. The front transmission mount will not bolt up if you do it this way, and since you are using stock mounts with rubber inserts in them, you will have a lot of flex as your engine revs.

my friend bought a b16 crx that was done this way a long time ago before mount kits were widely available. it interferes with battery placement too, so be aware.

that is what i had to do when swapping a B16A into my 83 Prelude...

i also had to move the LHS mount too - will i have to do this in the Civic?

how do you mean the front mount wont bolt up? do i need to relocate this left or right or does it go too far forward?

thanks,

ive done it before, when mount kits werent available.

timing belt side mount - use a 90-91 integra or the jdm b16a one.

tranny side mount- drill out spot welds , when u have your preferance on engine position reweld accordingly.

at the same time relocate the rear mount using the 90-91 L bracket , and repositioned mounton the rear crossmember

ya my buddies old crx was done before mount kits were made. you just use the stock b16 mounts. you have to cut , and weld the medal mount locations on the chassis of the car for this to work. alot of unnessecary work IMO. if you **** it up and dont line it up just right it wont work! just get the mount kit. you can get HCP for 275 or AZ fab for 285.

The work he would have to put into it is more than 300 dollars of labor.
HCP mounts dont vibrate nearly as much as hasports. not everyone HAS
TO USE HASPORTS.

yeah - thats right, not everyone ahs to use a mount kit.

thanks to you guys who have confirmed my idea. it is easy to drill out and reweld mounts...

i have done it in my 83 prelude:

http://www.geocities.com/b16ap....html

teh cost of the mounts is fair, but i have to import into Australia and the costs of tax and shipping doubles the landed cost downunder...

hence my reluctance to do this, when a professional weldign job = about 150 US...

ONE more question - can i swap the integra gauge cluster into the Si CRX ?

cheers everyone
