open the hood and remove all the black plastic tubing from the throttle body
(just bolts and stuff easily done if you have eyes)
once all that crap is gone put the cold tube in its place
(you'll either have to pull the weather guard back from the fender or take the bumper off to get the filter to where its supposed to go)

1. Open up the CAI box

2. READ THE INSTRUCTIONS

Honestly if you buy an intake system it should come with detailed instructions unless it's an el-cheapo shitty Ebay piece.

What brand are you looking into? Injen? AEM? Both should have good instructions.

If you haven't even looked into them yet I'll at least say the install isn't very hard if you have a basic toolset and a jack and a jackstand.

Most of the time you have to remove a wheel to access the area where the new air filter resides with the CAI kit.

Here's how it hooks up... pretty easy bro...just unhook whatever is currently there. Make sure you use something to clinch the rubber around the manifold and the filter.

You're showing ram air. He's asking for CAI and isn't the 2001 I/M different. That pic doesn't help all that much.

edit: NM...you changed the pic. But the question about the I/M is still valid.

Umm thats cold air...and if he's asking how to hook one up...there's a good chance he has never even seen one...

BTW:

He's talking about the NEW civics, which have a different airbox assy. altogether and have different routing than any 1992-2000 Civic.

That pic above does little to help in this topic because it's totally different than the 01-04 Civics.

I will also add that if the install process is anywhere near as bad as in the Acura RS-X then pay a shop to do it. An AEM in an RS-X requires moving the entire windshield washer tank to the opposite side of the car - not fun at all.

i've installed a short ram in my 98 civic

and i helped put in a cold air in my friends 01 civic ex

let me tell you my intake was a breeze compared to his cold air. lots more removal needed and if yours is an aem intake you're gonna need to remove a BIG OL nut on the transmission to attach a bracket to, it think its like, a freakin 27mm nut

but besides being more intensive, just read the directions, make sure you have the right tools, and be confident before you start.

he didnt ask if you liked the question, he asked how you install one! serious honda-tech is taking a dump because of people like you that are too cool and dont want to help anybody.

but serious it should have instructions and it's a cool mod if you are getting started in this stuff, and it makes you learn more about your car and appreciate when peopl actaully work on cars that it's not always the easiest thing at times. good luck bro.

I couldn't agree more. This was a legitimate question, so what if it's really basic, we all had to start somewhere. My first mod back in the day was a cai, and yes, I had a more experienced friend watching over me while I did. to people flaming this guy.
