Cars w/high miles, what oil do you use?
In order to make your engine last long, i don't think the oil matters that much, i think it is a matter of changing your oil regularly that's all.
I have seen, specifically in motorcycles, 25 year olod engines that had little to no wear in the bottom end simply due to that fact. Myself, i own a 1978 Harley shovelhead bike that i bought a couple of years ago. Just took the engine apart this winter. over 300,000 km on the bottom end (crank and such) and it is still within tolerances. Been running straight 60W oil in it...
Af course synthetic oils now are better and make your engine last longer. But, my philosophy remains to change your oil at regular intervals... Simple as that.

Mine used dino oil (don't really know which brand), changed like clockwork every 3k miles, up until 260k. Since then I've used Mobil 1 synthetic changed every 5k. Never had a problem, and still doesn't burn or leak a drop! Engine shows virtually no signs of wear or getting old.... still has compression of that of a new engine, and runs as such... never rebuilt.
