@#$%@# ARG! Swap woes
[Vent]
2 years ago, I ordered my B16A1/S1/ecu shipped to my door for $1150. the swap cost me $950, rest was shipping. Got it from nipponmotors.
The engine has been smoking a bit, the gearbox is dying, needs to be rebuilt. Arg.
So, I ordered me another swap. This time, $1450 shipped. Arg. This time, got it from Hmonline.com. It didn't have the intermediate shaft, but, thankfully, i had one already. The engine harness was perfect though. Engine looked perfect (thanks Hmonline.com). Too bad the prices have skyrocketed.
When looking at my old swap, i noticed the HASPort mounts were, well, um, screwed. the poly was pulling out from the mounts. These were pre-billet and didn't feel like spending another $450 for mounts.
Ebaymotors.com here i come.
Won an auction for some no name mounts. $285 for them. Better than the $450 for the HASport.
Installing the engine yesterday, the gearbox mount isn't grinded down enough and hits the chassis bracket. Arg.. some grinding and cursing, i get it to fit.
Dropping the engine into the bay and the rear mount isn't lining up. Arg.. Thankfully, it's slotted, since the designer didn't do enough R&D. I wish i knew the actual brand, but, it's Ebay.. and the mounts came in a white unlabeled box.
they LOOK better than the HASports though... of course, LOOKS usually does not equal PERFORMANCE. Arg.
I just hope this damn engine runs and the gearbox doesn't grind. Plus, i'm using the engine harness from the B16A (rather than my old harness)... since I already have an extra set of wires wiring up the VTEC solenoid and other items, I'll just leave those connectors from the B16A harness unconnected. Hopefully it'll work.
Blah... so far the slowest engine swap i've done (it's taking me 3 days at 3 hours each, usually takes me 3 hours). Arg.

I'm just impressed that you can do an engine swap in 3 hours!
Does this 3 hours include having the other motor running and all the clean up? Also do you sort out and label bolts and parts or do you just throw it all in a tub?

I don't include the time to prep the engine being swapped in, so, that's part of it.
3hrs is:
1. disconnecting all items from engine in car.
2. pulling engine from car.
3. dropping new engine into car.
4. hooking everything up
it definitely takes longer if anything from the old engine has to be swapped out to the new engine (ie. alternator, header, harness, etc)

I got my b16 from Hmonline from that crazy dude (I think his name is steve). Steve was very poor with customer service but the swap was ALMOST ok.
Everything came as expected, even the Hasport billet mounts, hasport linkage, hasport wiring harness and hasport a/c bracket.... all from hmo.
BUT. One of the axles was trashed and I had the head checked out and all the valve guides were WAY out of spec so I had to spend another 300$ get new guides put in (also got a 3 angle job as well!).
So far I've done several track days on the motor and a couple roadtrips and motor will go an entire 3k oil interval without eating a drop of oil so I'm very happy with the result.
I'm sorry to hear about your unfortunate shortcomings Driven but keep up the good work.
