In all seriousness now,,, I'm in need of a rear swabar for my ITR, any suggestions please???
I just did some racing and am interested in tightening up the rear end of my R for some better cornering. I had adjusted my RE010's as such F38/R45, and was happier than a suggested 40/40 from an experienced friend.
I realize that my stock suspension is very good and would like to keep using it. I just want that little less rear sway.
Another good friend of mine suggested the Mugen 26mm rear sway "he's a very good driver and has the bar already." I'm sure it's good but,
What suggestions are there out there for a rear sway for me?
Also, would a rear strut tower bar be another good idea? If so which one? JDM/OEM or Mugen or other?
As for tires, well, before my next event on the 11th of November, I'll be sharing the car with a friend so he can show me some tips AND he's letting me borrow some Volk TE-37's mounted with R compound Hoosier's, so I'm all set for rubber for now.
Any helpful suggestions would be appreciated, I only have a few weeks so I need some answers...
Thanks,
A.

A few suggestions actually, for what it's worth. I tell this to all Type R owners.
1. Don't bother changing it, especially if you're serious about pursuing autocross. Once you've got the driver in shape, the car is best in stock class - it's at a distinct disadvantage in CSP.
2. If you want more rotation in the car, experiment with alignment and tire pressures. Try bumping up your rear pressures, and toe the rear suspension out just a bit.
3. Stay on street tires for a full season. You'll learn more this way - you get accustomed to the car sliding around some, and it costs you less to boot. One autocross is (IMO) way too early to step up to Hoosiers (which are fairly unforgiving and very expensive).
I say spend the money on events, or maybe a set of adjustable shocks (which are stock class legal). If you insist on changing the rear bar, the Mugen is probably your best bet. Just bring money.

I have the Mugen 26mm bar and I like it, but I am also running 800lb. rear springs and race valved Bilsteins. My team-mate is using the same set-up but is using the Ground Control bar that is very adjustable and nice to look at.
I am glad that you are fired up about running hard in your car but please do consider the other posts before you leap. A small change can make your car more fun but put you at a disadvantage to other cars that are prepped to the limit for the class.
These are all just our opinions and you can do whatever you want just make sure you have fun and drive safe.
You will, as posted learn to drive better on street tires first but if you are just running for fun this late in the season by all means try the Hoosiers. You will have such a grin on your face!
Have Fun,

Thanks Guys, I really appreciate the response,
I already have a header and intake though so CSP is my current class for now, at least for the remainder of this season.
I know the Mugen is expensive, thats why I am inquiring, but thats the response I was kinda expecting.
The tires and rims are on loan since my buddies car is not running and we both want to compete "he's a veteren," so our deal was; he loans me the rims/tires and we share my car for 2 more of the last races this season.
I knew I shoulde've Auto-Xed GS fbefore I modded,"kicking myself in the head." Ahh well I'll live.
I beat a Jackson Racing Supercharged ITR yesterday for all 5 of my 7 runs, So I'm proud and know that the Driver is the Key not the car or Horsepower! I'll keep practicing...
Anyway, thanks alot, Oh and BTW my stock tires are getting smooth,, any suggestions for daily replacements/weekend rubber? I saw in the current GRM that the Falken Azenis are a good deal, what do you think?

Hey, if it's free tires...what the hell. But when this deal goes away, don't be tempted (and you wil be) to buy R compound tires just yet.
And regardless of any serious recommendations any of us have...remember that the whole point of this is FUN. Everything else should be an afterthough.
Again, welcome to the addiction.

I know this topic has been covered "ad-nauseum" by the Civic crowd, but I haven't heard anything about it from an ITR perspective...
Is there a possibility that a 26mm rear bar could tear out at the mounting brackets? Especially with stock springs and struts. All that suspension travel is going to put some major stress on those mounts.

fsp 31,
I haven't had any problems and I don't know anyone who has but again everyone that I know personally has also upgraded their shocks and springs also. You should e-mail King Motorsport and see what Scott has to say as they are the Distributor and have sold a lot of them.

Anton,
I know you like to mod your car, but before you open a catalog for the next go fast part remember this: me and other ITR owners regular PAX 1st or at least top 10 ALL the time in a STOCK Type R. Or our raw times are always top 20 ! The ONLY thing a Type R needs is race tires and a good driver !! Save all your money for an Evolution Autocross School.

Thanks Dave, and all,,,,
Advice well taken, I've resolved to wait for any other mods till next season,"Do the OMP pedals count, Heh Heh?"
It's just that CSP is alot more competitive than Gstock, I know I shoulde've listened to you but "again kicking myself in the head!" Rodney and I were just tossing ideas around about making it handle Even better, and thats what he and a few others came up with for a great handeling mod.
No more HP/TQ mods for me thanks ,especially after I was able to keep up with and then best that Boosted ITR!
I'm just going to concentrate on Tires/Pressures and refining my driving technique. And YES the Evolution Driving School is on my list!
So like you I'll be forever going through brakes and tires.
Thanks again Dave, you know I saw my PIC on your site, Heh Heh now I'm really hooked, especially after seeing the all sorts of way I'm pushin my R!
Next X for me is on 11/11/01 at the Palisades again, Make it if you can, it was fun to see you and I'm bringin even more friends this time one is either gonna bring his WRX or his 89 Mustang.

I would actually recommend you re-install the stock header (pretty good on a type-r) and intake, use a K&N drop in filter, and add a cat-back exhaust, if so desired. This will keep you in stock class..... For brake pads i'd recommend carbotech kelate-metallics or hawk HP+, both are very good autoX pads.
Keep learning, attend the evo school on street tires, learn some more, then buy r-tires.... but once you buy a set you wont ever go back to autocrossing on street tires
I know i cant. The ITR will dominate G-Stock once again next year, its a great car with a great setup. I'm sure Koni makes some yellow shocks for the car, you could have those re-valved for autoX and converted to double-adjustable too for a not-so-outraegous price.
Street Prepared classes are a huge money pit, and if you want to be competitive you need another car to drive every day and lots of cash to put into mods, and the ITR is at somewhat of a disadvantage in CSP, unfortunately, although i'm sure it could do well.
