AEM Fuel Pressure Regulator
Are you asking because you are looking into a ZEX kit?
To answer your question, yes the stock FPR is a bypass type.
The AEM "add-on" is just basically a kit that makes the stock FPR adjustable.

i dont own an aftermarket FPR, but i thought the B&M fpr is the "add-on" which you have to hack the stock unit and replace the top with and adjustable spring. whereas the AEM unit is a full replacement for the stock FPR. i think the prices for both reflect this difference. i heard the advantage that the AEM product offers is that it can set the pressure BELOW the stock FPR, as well as above, which the B&M can only adjust above the stock pressure. why you would want to set the pressure below, im not sure.
That's true about only being able to raise fuel pressure with the B&M, but there are modifications you can make that allow you to set lower fuel pressures. It involves drilling a hole on the inside of the bottom part of the stock regulator to allow more flow through to the fuel return line. You would want to do this if you install a higher flow fuel pump where the baseline fuel pressure is much higher than it should be.
I wanted to know if the AEM is a bypass type because I bought an Aeromotive fuel pump to go with my fuel cell and it says that I need to run a bypass type FPR for it to work properly. Thanks
Hmm, not sure about that one. Your best bet would just be to call AEM. I'm sure they could answer that question and give you more info on what you're trying to do and it would be much quicker than waiting on people to respond on the forum, ya know?
If I'm right, a bypass regulator just means that it has a return line for the excess fuel to go back to the tank. If that's right then the AEM is a bypass type.

I think 4drEF is right. I guess other cars that could use the fuel cell he's got won't necessarily have a bypass type system, so they have to specify that you need one. I bet it'll work. I'd just give it a shot and see what happens.
