Please advise - CRX dying out of nowhere
Like the title says, my CRX will be idling along fine and then all of a sudden cease to run. It has done this three times this week.
The car is a 90 CRX Si with a 90 B16A, Zdyne one-wire ECU, original distributor, new plugs and wires, original fuel pump. If you need any other info to help diagnose please ask!
It only dies while idling, and then will not start for an hour or so, if at all. Since it just dies suddenly and doesn't shudder and come to a stop over a few seconds it seems like an electrical issue.
ANY INPUT IS APPRECIATED, and thank you for your time!

same thing here... check you coil..... it will get hot sometimes and just die..... hard to check though since it only does it for a short while...... can you use a buddys?... just to keep from having to buy stuff you dont need!... good luck though......i assume you have no CEL right?
Thanks for the replies!
looks like we're agreed that the ignitor and coil are the problem. Correct, no CELs, Warchild. I'll replace the coil tomorrow and let it idle in the driveway and replace the ignitor if it dies out.

Okay, I changed the cap, rotor, and coil. It runs good now, I let it idle in the driveway for about 15 minutes after the changeout, and it ran nice and smooth. I then took it out, drove it around for about 10 minutes, no problems. The only thing that gave me a slight scare was that as I was pulling out of my driveway, when I went to go forward there was a part-throttle hesitation, but it pulled through and behaved fine for the rest of the trip. Should I dismiss this or take it as a sign to change the ignitor also?

Battery is an Odyssey dry cell, very good battery IMO. The alternator is about 6 months old. I don't think it's either of those though because the motor would turn over again and again, so the battery had plenty of juice.
Last night though, out on the interstate, I was going along and then BAM, the motor had no power (everything elsse worked) for about 3 seconds, and when I would try the gas it would do nothing (I actually shot a fireball out the back, so I know I have fuel...) and then it would start back up as if nothing had happened. I was in gear the whole time so it was unable to idle and die, thank god. Is it possible the ignitor could cut out and come back online? I've been under the impression that ignitors fail once and fail for good.
I suppose I'm off to change the ignitor...

Take a zip tie and wrap it around the end of the coil wire cap, this will make sure that you keep a good connection.
I have a Mazda and the coil wire was on backwards and it did not have a good connection and would die out of nowhere. Same problem as you are having.

I think you're meaning this for someone with an external coil? Mine is inside the distributor cap. I replaced the coil, ignitor, cap, and rotor and it hasn't died since(knock on wood). So, one of those things cured it lol.
