As of yesterday, I was going to say that James (161822) is a good person to do business with, even though we were on bad terms from some ish' that happened like almost a year ago. I just recently had saved up some cash to throw in a 94 LS motor that I picked up off of him, and it started up, and drove down the street, then all of a sudden it locked up. I took it back to the shop, and the motor was seized. James replaced my timing belt and water pump before he sold it to me, but the guys who put my motor in (Hook-Ups) said it was probably just an old *** motor with a grip of miles, and we are sure its due to a bent connecting rod, F*CK!!! I am so pissed at this fool, cause he is shady. I trusted him from the start, which I shouldn't have mainly because of the way he treats people in general. You are who you are, and your character shows how you conduct yourself, and your business, and he is a prime example of a guy who needs to get his ish' together. Very unprofessional, and perfect for anyone who wants to waste a lot of their time, and some $$$. PM me if you need any clarification.

i can personally say that i have nothing but good thing come from my dealing with this shop....in general u get what ur looking for. there is no question that the work is quality. i think in the end u will be treated how u come off....if ur an *** dont expect a red carpet welcome. as far as the comment made with a seized motor...i dont think that the finger should be pointed at the shop cause the customer asked to buy a used motor from a third party....the where abouts of the motor in question are unknown the situation should have been handled by the two customers, it was not the shop owners responsilbility....also taking a year to install the motor doesnt quite help. also, if u cut corners u know u get what u pay for.

well well well
look you know where that motor came from no need to name names you know the exact source. It ran without any problems and you knew the mileage. You were very cool with it back then before you ran your mouth, especially since you didnt HAVE THE MONEY TO DO IT BACK A YEAR AGO! No complaints about the tranny, linkage, and axles you got hooked up on is there??? You only got hooked up on that because of chef's influence. You chose the direction you went when you talked ****. Maybe thats why your such the popular guy you are with all your "friends" especially since no one wants anything to do with you outta the old group. I can be very professional if you want to extend the same courtesy to me, however you didnt wanna do that, so why should I. If you had a negative experience you should step outta your bubble and think to yourself "DID I MAKE THIS EXPERIENCE NEGATIVE"...which YOU did.
As far as character, if im not mistaken it was you who didnt call me until the bitter end, which by then it was way to far gone. You tried to mediate it thru other channels and not own up to it yourself. That is not my problem. Everyone knows how you are and how you handle your problems. I gave you exaclty what you gave me in return.
As far as my quality of work everyone who knows me knows i do quality work. I know HT is not the forum to advertise without the proper consent from the mods. So im not gonna explore that avenue. But your free to check my site out. Its known enough for me not to say anything.
My cars are plenty out there. I know this business and its very hard to please everyone all the time. I would say i have a 90% happiness rating with most customers. Of course there are a few customers that relationships GO DOWN IN FLAMES and this is one of those cases! But DJGUAMSTYLES always seems to try to belittle everyone that he has a problem with on HT (another friend of ours had a similar incident with him no names again) and im not havin it from DJ. You know how i like to deal with this type of stuff hommie, but im sure you aint down for that.
Neways talked with the hommies at HOOKUPS, there on my site as well, why cause there cool and respectable. I know the entire story which i will post if necessary. Man you sure do like to run your mouth dont you DJ. Well hopefully i wont get a total *** reaming from HT i never post just read, maybe i will start posting nowadays a little more. Just dont want this to get out of portion, but since it was made public a little more than a year after it happen, i have only one person to deal with and that will be you DJ of course nothing INTENDED or should be taken in any form of context hehe

I've been down to the shop many a times and have seen many customers become "regulars" at the shop. WHEN the shop is open, you'll find a lot of the "customers turned friends" chillin and exchanging ideas and views on this whole seen while "the man" works undisturbed on the many jobs that are at hand. If a problem arises, without hesitation, the problem is immediately attacked with a resolution. Therefore, the reputation behind the business is a positive one.
I've never gotten any work done there yet, but rest assure, when the time comes for the cd5 to arise, they will definitly be the ones who will take the calling. Most shops come and go. The ones that last, last for a reason. If mickey mouse owned a shop, 161822 would definitely NOT be one of them. Lastly, to everyone that's drank that bottle of Haterade, take another sip cuz it just keeps the rest of us growing stronger and stronger. Without you, none of the things we do would be possible.

hmmmmm, what to say that hasn't really been said.

so let's review, shall we?
motor came from somewhere else.
dj agreed to buy, knowing full well that the motor had miles on it.
dj bought motor with new belts and blah blah blah put on it, could have paid for complete tear down, inspection, and rebuild to check it out, didn't.
could of had us put it in, didn't.
waited a year to put in.
didn't come back to us, instead ran his mouth bad mouthing to everyone, we are crap.
finally wanted to come back, still didn't come directly, had to call and ask through a 3rd party.
and now tells the world we suck.

and wonders why the world is aginst him.
i dont care who it is, no one would warranty or replace that thing after a year.
so you see, you get what ya pay for and get what ya don't pay for. and as far as being unprofessional or disrespectful, bottom line ya get what ya give.

I have had work on all three of my cars done by James of 161822. A 93 coupe, my 93 hatch, and my 91 hatch (which I just had him do almost a complete motor overhaul, minor tranny rebuild, and a somewhat elaborate suspension revamping). The work is done well, plain and simple. Just make sure that any and all parts that are needed for the job in question are at hand(that way, no excuses will hold water); and the work will be done right, done well, done efficiently, and done at a price that is damn near unbeatable. And thats from experience.

But as others have mentioned, you will get treated by the way that you act and come across. That doesn't reflect on how the work will be, it just means that your business there will be just that, business... nothing more, nothing less. That means drop it off, pick it up, pay up, then bounce.

Anyways though, it is impossible to please everyone. Unfortunately it only takes one negative instance or comment (true or not) to start a flurry of BS, and this is especially true in mediums of communication such as this board, so lets not let that happen here people. One bad experience vs the many good ones... you all do the math.

Long story short, get your work done by 161822. Worst case scenario, you don't care for the guy himself, but you get quality work done for a very respectable/competitive price. Tell him Big Mike sent you.

Ok so this is where I give my response, and hopefully its the only one I need to say. Should I say my side of the story of how things went bad with James? It will help this whole thing make sense, but it still can't make up all of your minds as if its him or me thats telling the truth.

First off, Yes I knew the motor was a risk, but of course James has the best prices around, so who would turn away a $500 B18B? I assumed, and was even reassured by him that the motor was fine and didn't need any internal work, being that it was around a 70,000 mile motor if I can remember correctly. I thought maybe though it was smart to change out the water pump, oil pump, timing belt, the usual ish' you change while its out of the car. He had also found me a B16 tranny with shift linkage and axles for $850, which was damn good, so who would pass that up? BTW it works fine, so thank you for that. See? I respect you, I always have. You actually are the kind of guy who actually demands it, you know? And to tell you the truth, I felt I came across to you as one of the honest/loyal persons you knew. I felt like I was on great terms with you, which believe me people, is not a walk in the park to get there. I tried my best to help you out. I brought you your money as soon as you called me up with some new ish' you found for me. Things were all good, you might say.

When I finally finished giving you all the money for the complete swap ($2050), I swear it took you over 4 or 5 months to get it done, and I shouldn't even say that it was done, because I still had to find a starter, the AC bracket, little bolts here and there for the throttle body, and the gasket, the belts and so on. Not to mention I think you were just being a dick when you handed me off the motor with an OBD-II dizzy, and misc. **** that the avg. person doing a swap might not know about such as myself. I told you from the beginning, I wanted an LS because its cheap, and its easy to swap into my CX. I wanted to do it myself mainly cause I assumed it was better for you. I didn't wanna be in your way, or take up your time. Thats the impression I get from you, I didn't wanna get on your bad side, so I tried to take steps to be out of your way.

And you also made it damn near impossible for me to do the swap myself. To an expert Honda mechanic, you might be laughing cause this is easy **** to take care of, but for me, I don't know how to repin plugs, or use my stock engine harness, and stuff of that sort. I was expecting you to have it ready to swap right in and be plugged in at the shock tower, and I think the way you delivered it to me, was like saying "I'll show you that you don't know ****, and that you are helpless without me".

It took me around a year to get all the stuff for the motor, mainly cause I kept spending money on other stuff, but regardless we were already on bad terms before you handed off the motor to me. It was a chicken **** move, and you know it. You say that I didn't call you? Oh I called you a couple times, and you didn't answer, and even showed up to the shop, but of course its closed. This is where its your word against mine homie. You say my old friends don't like me anymore either because of who I am, but I know them, and I know that they are easily influenced by words, and not actions. You and them only have judgments about me based on what you've heard. Some true hater talked some mess, and stirred up the **** in the pot and the next thing you know, you hate my ***. I was shocked, and still to this day don't know the exact reason, but I still think it has to do with little man. He's the only person I had true beef with, and after that all my old homies don't kick it. Its okay, if they are that easily persuaded to not be my friend after 6+ years, then why bother to be around people like that? It won't be my loss, thats for sure. I know I am good people, and I live day to day making sure I don't **** that up. I came up here on H-T putting out my experiences with you, cause I definitely had experiences to share. If I didn't share, then I wouldn't be helping out this great Honda community.

I honestly think I didn't do anything myself to screw up our good terms, but once you started acting on it (with my motor and all) then I knew **** was going downhill from there and because you are the way you are, you won't wanna hear me out. I never had the chance to say ****, I just wanted to cut my losses and move on, but a year later, here I am putting in a motor from you and its junk! Whether its from a 3rd party or not, if you are a true reputable businessman, you will take that $500 motor back. But you won't, everyone who knows you knows you won't. So thanks for the hook ups here and there, but you won't get much business if you act unprofessional and irresponsible.

All I can say is Hook-Ups did my motor in a day, which if I left with you would've taken how long? Yeah, hehe its a running joke how you lag, but its what decides who goes to you and who goes to someone else for their work. That's all there is to it.

Much props to the guys at Hook-Ups, they definitely got their **** together. Stayin' in business by fixing other shops screwups.

OH LOOK CAPTIAN SAVE A COMMUNITY now this coming from your one way self.
PASSING THE KLEENEX to you. EVERYTHING else work A ok without a problem, funny how that worked. It took you over a year to save 500 bucs which you had to use 2 credit cards to pay for the swap. Remember, this is MR im always looking for a deal ( that should explain a few things about this guy) Your so all about your honda community look up how to make things work, YOU FIX TV's FOR A LIVING SO you have to have some mechanichal sense. Everything was there for you to install a swap. Funny how every thinks is so easy, so DROP-IN. Come on guy your the one who pulled an entire motor out to change a clutch, remember. HT was there for you then. Preform search "how to install clutch"
One case is true by you posting your experience, others with there experiences have posted. Its very clear that i do more good than bad. Nothing in this business is 100%. Nothing ever before in 8 years of having this shop has ever came up in HT, your the first to bring something up
SO if your goal is to talk **** i would advise you to stop (even if its under the preface of saving your community as you like to put it) by the way when did you become a member of my mafia since i did that suspension swap back in 99 on a DA picture me rolling on wide 4 ITR wheel

We are done i dont wanna hear anything more outta you on this matter

You just answered your own question. If the motor was bought from say HMO it most likely would of been warrantied, but this is 3rd party, no guarenteeds. You are taking a chance and it sucks the motor blew but its on you.

As 161822's website gure/public relations manager, I really feel the need to step in here. James is a great guy, and will ALWAYS bend over backwards to help you out, if he can do so.

I'm not going to come on this board and bash some guy that I don't know, however there's 1 important thing to be said.

161822 has done HUNDREDS of motor swaps alone - plus other misc reparis. This is ONE guy's opinion about the shop. Don't let that taint your opinions. It's like eating at a restaurant. When you have hundreds of people eating at your restaurant over the course of a weekend, you're going to have someone who complains about something. Now - analyze that. Did they complain because they wanted something to cry about - or where their arguments valid? If they were valid - did the management do something to remedy the situation? Sometimes crap happens that's out of everyone's hands....and no matter how good your staff is....something could go wrong.

However, when you put yourself in a scenerio that puts yourself at risk, and something goes wrong.....that's you're fault. If you buy a motor from a 3rd party why are you putting the blame on the installer? You let your motor sit a whole year before you put it in??? Did something happen to the motor during the time it was sitting on your garage floor? Also....you bought a USED motor. Just like buying a used car there's no gaurantee. It's not new....so why should someone stand behind a motor that they didn't build or even sell to you in the first place.

I'd also like to add that in your first post you stated, "F*CK!!! I am so pissed at this fool, cause he is shady. I trusted him from the start, which I shouldn't have mainly because of the way he treats people in general. You are who you are, and your character shows how you conduct yourself, and your business, and he is a prime example of a guy who needs to get his ish' together. Very unprofessional, and perfect for anyone who wants to waste a lot of their time, and some $$$"

Then in your second post you write, "See? I respect you, I always have."

That's whack dude. Don't diss someone then comeback with a ***-kiss.

Also - what the hell is this statement: "Whether its from a 3rd party or not, if you are a true reputable businessman, you will take that $500 motor back"

DUDE......once again why should someone stand behind a 3rd party's work. If you buy a Nissan and it takes a crap are you going to take it back to a Honda dealer to be fixed? NO. Why? They are 2 seperate entities - just like the person who sole you the motor and the person who installed it.

On a final note - please keep in mind that this is just one schmuck's opinion about 161822. Ask around...and you'll hear great things. Remember - you can't please all the people all the time, just some of the people some of the time.
