Default non oem headgasket question....

hey guys i just wanted to know some of ur opinions. a year ago my friend drove my car and misshifted and bend some valves. i took it to a trustworthy mechanic and the car was fixed. he checked the engine and replaced 8 exhaust valves. he also replaced many various things( timing belt ,bolts etc) and were all oem parts cuz i saw the packages. wen replacing my headgasket acura did not have one in stock so he put an oem replacement headgasket on my car. the car is running fine. i just want to know if thats going to effect any power gains or compression numbers i had when i had the oem type r headgasket? are they made the same?

Its hard to tell if you do not know the brand of the headgasket. If it was a oem replacement it was probably the same thickness and would not affect performance at all.

i think the head gaskets may have a slight difference in thickness.. it might of changed the compression very slightly.. For better or for worse i have no idea...

I think it would be the same if it is a oem replacement. If you go to auto zone and pick up a fuel filter for a honda it looks exactly the same as the oem except its not oem and its the autozone brand which may have been made of different materials. The head gasket should be the same thing.

see now ur comparing fuel filters something that doesn't make a diifference like a headgasket will.. i think danny is a lil confused i think he meant to say they put in a aftermarket headgasket instead of a oem. cause oem is a factory part..

well a way of knowing is buy checking the compression and match ur numbers with another type-r.. if there pretty much the same then u'll be ok..

the thickness of the OEM gasket to a OEM "replacement" gasket will probably the same. even if there is a slight difference in thickness it will not be noticeable in compression test numbers or compression ratio calculations.

you are worrying to much over nothing........dont sweat it......as long as the car runs good who cares if the gasket is half a **** hair thicker or thinner...

yeah, the OEM and OE head gaskets all have the same compresed thickness, which I believe is .043 inches or so
