valve adjustment needed after ITR cams install?
I installed ITR cams in my GSR with 20k miles. I was told that I did not need a valve adjustment because my car only had 20k miles and also because the primary lobes were the same for the GSR and ITR cams.
I was looking at the Hlems manual and noticed that none of the lobes were the same.
Was a valve adjustment really necessary?

ya I would have definitely done the valve adjustment if only just to check the clearances. Were you in a hurry or something? It just seems odd to install new cams and not do a valve adjustment at the same time.
anytime cams are involved u should adjust them for proper clearances
BTW, specs are the same for GSR and ITR according to helms

Stick,
the valve clearances are the same, BUT the cam lobes are NOT the same for GSR and ITR, right?
My friend said that the PRIMARY lobes were the same and I did not need a valve adj.

I'd like to put this topic to rest REAL QUICK.. This weekend, I installed 2k ITR cams in my GSR and I, too, was told that the adjustment was NOT necessary.. I still went and bought the valve adjustment tool from a Snap-On truck for $40 cash and bought angled feeler gauges for under $7..
I changed the adjustment on at least 2 (out of 4) lifters on every cylinder.. It is ABSOLUTELY necessary, and should always at least be checked for a $6 part (feeler gauges).. btw, I laughed when I saw the above post about the primary lobes being the same, basically meaning only the VTEC lobe is different.. Why buy the cams then? heh
Oh, and if u dont do the adjustment, since the ITRs aren't that radical, your new cams will break in wrong and then grind away to GSR specs..
If the cam was crazy radical, piston-to-valve clearance would be compromised and you'd have bent valves right away..

Yes, anytime you swap cams, you must adjust the valves, here's how to do it:

just food for thought valves should be adjusted every 15,000 miles under normal driving conditions.....normal driving conditions do not include red lining a lot so i am sure most people here would have to do it more frequently
Yeah, I do mine every 10,000 or so. It's a good idea, and it doesn't take that long. I bought the Snap-On valve adjustment tool for $45 and it makes it wayyyyy easier. Cspeeds site is a wonderful resource you should utilize.
