REMOVING PAINT OFF MY CRX AND RIMS...
ok im goin to repaint my crx and rims... and just start over from the bare metal... i was told about the aircraft remover for the rims and was wondering... it says to remove the paint with a flexable plastic scraper when its soft and ready, but i cant reach one of those in all the places like in cracks and where the lug nuts are... so can i just use like a rag or what?? and also can i use aircraft remover to strip the car paint and primer as well?? instead of having to sand the whole car down??
Aircraft Remover is the greatest stuff. I stripped my valve cover with it. Took everything off right down to the bare metal. All I did was pour it on and let it sit for about 45min. Then I just took a hose to it and washed it all off, it didn't need any scrubbing.
Yep you can do it to your whole car. But have some buddies around to start priming it ASAP because the rust will start coming quickly... surface rust that is. Nothing heavy, but it is rust.
And for the love of God, wear some protective gear when you use that aircraft remover. So you don't get it in your eyes, like someone on this board did.
dude you really dont need to strip the whole car to bare metal, your base prime and coat from the factory has been cured on there for years and will actually create the best adhesive for primer and new paint as long as you prep the body right.
Trust me working at a shop I hang out in the body shop alot, my good friend works in there and he never takes anything to bare metal the thought never even really crosses most body guys mind. You just need to get the clear coat off and get down into the base coat of the original color.

ps Ive used AR and it workes ****** great, I used it on my old valve cover as well and a few other various things, but yes dont get it on your skin or inyour eyes it burns a little.

and the best way to get down to the factory base coat would be through tons of sanding?

Have you ever heard of an orbital sander, lol and it doesnt take long you prob. wouldnt believe how thin clear coat is especially on ouur cars I did all this by hand on my dx. It took me about 3 solid nights of working to get all the clear coat off everywhere and down to a good base coat......
but it took abut 2-3 weeks of sanding to get the finish I was wanting. Patience is a virtue

Don't use that aircraft remover crap. I took some down to the airport and dumped it all over the place and it didn't even remove a single air craft, not even a helicopter.

When you do the Air Craft Remover on the Valve Cover Does it leave it with a polished look? Also what can you place it in that won't melt or what ever to keep the thing coverd in the stuff? or do you just have to like brush it on?
Jasco.......
Brush it in, let it sit, spray it off.
No it doesn't leave it polished, that would require polishing.
It leaves a brushed non-matte type finish
