The Honda-Tech Shifter Kart Finally Runs (video included)
The official Honda-Tech project shifter kart now runs.
It started long ago as these parts (click to view):

This is a Kawasaki Ninja 500R (EX500) engine, and a '99 Trackmagic 125cc shifter kart rolling chassis.
The chassis needed a little work to accept a 500cc engine, so I had to hack the frame up a bit. I lengthened the frame 9" with chromoly:

The kart needed some custom exhaust work, and since I was given a ricer exhaust system with the bike, I modified it to fit. I also made a stainless steel gauge cluster from the original bike cluster. Sonny informed me of the trackmagic magic can setup, so I also installed an electric fuel pump and a reservoir to gravity feed the carbs:

So today we finally put the wheels back on and got the kart running. We installed the obligatory honda-tech decals all over the place.

Sweet, a friend had a couple of those a few years ago. Don't know a whole lot about them but I know the shifter car was clocked at 118mph on the track and still had some throttle left. The single speed did just over 100 on the same stretch.
One night out in our rural area we thought it would be fun to duct tape maglights to the shifter car and run it on the hwy at 3 in the morn. At that time it was super rare to see a cop out here but that night we did. Of course he had no chance in catching the cart and my buddy driving said it was the most fun he had ever had.
Ended up selling each of the cars for around $6k each.

why can't everyone make picture posts like dustin? man, its so thoughtfully laid out with nice thumbnail images which are correctly linked to nice large images.
anyways, nice project and can't wait to see how it runs!

Glad to see that you finally got it all together dustin. I will never drive it out of pure fear, but I will however do a great deal of watching, and of course driving you, Mike or Patrick to the hospital.

Haha...I race the karts because they're cheaper than the real deal. Hell if I tear up every body panel on it I can either reglass them myself for next to nothign, or get a whole new body setup for under 300 bucks.
Plus, I get to live out my ricer side...I have TONS of stickers on it (helps to keep body peices from flying away onto the track) .

Only thing I can suggest is have another family member/friend who is into it. Without a second person it's damn near impossible. You HAVE to have somebody to help you pick the cart up and down off of the stand to work on it.
