I think someone is trying to steal my R
Went outside tonite and someone had turned off a switch for the security floodlight at the house. The switch to turn it off is on the underside of the carport roof, not somewhere where anyone could even find it unless they were looking. Hell, only reason I found it was cause I need to turn it back on.
Any suggestions to protect the car? I was tihnking of putting it up on car jacks temporarily (sp?) since I rarely drive it.
Thanks

Leave a note on the drivers window saying "I know who you are, I know what you are up to, and there is a 9mm pointed at your head as you read this. Wanna see how good my aim is?"

park it sideways and real close to ur house. (so a tow truck would have to pull it sideways, or drive up on ur lawn to get it onto the bed.)
and unplug all the previously mentioned stuff - ecu, spark plug wires, battery.

Do a few things actually.
1. Call the local police and tell them that youve seen people around your house and car and what they did with the light ect. And tell them to patrol around (which most likely they wont but its worth a try)
2. Put the car on jack stands
3. Remove Ecu + Fuses (yes both)
4. Pray to whatever/whichever god you belive in.

id put the car on jackstands and take off the tires, or you can park another car behind the R so they can tow it. set up a fake camera so they think youre watching

Park your R backwards up against the house and remove the front tow hooks. This will make it VERY hard for anyone to tow it.
Also remove the wheels, ECU and anything else you can think of like everyone else just said

Everyday i read or see a post like this i just sit back and wonder how in the world our cars are like this. Its to the point where if its your R or a beemer right next to each other, the thief wants the R. Awesome car to have, worst car to worry about.
On topic: Here is what i do....i put my car in the garage and park the daily behind it. So theyd have to steal both or move the daily, open the garage door, break into the car and then make off with it.
<---Who wonders how many damn users out there are playing "seek the next victim"

why do people say this? dont you think if he HAD a garage he would put it in there? by the way, they arent even 100% safe in garages.

I looked in to this the other day; your problem is power. You need 5V DC to run the thing. Now, you could run this off your car battery, but that is really a bad idea unless you drive your car everyday.
X10.com makes some nice wireless camera units that have motion sensing and night vision. This is what you need in my opinion.
Either way, you need to come up with a better power supply than your cars battery. One idea is to attach a solar panel to the cars electrical system (or just to its own circuit with an extra car battery on it) and then run the camera. If you get a decent panel you should be able to provide enough power for the camera; the goal would be to use the panel to charge the battery and run the camera during the day, and then leave the battery with enough power to run the camera at night.
It gets kind of complicated; probably not worth it. I mean who cares if you can see the guys stealing your R; are you gonna watch the camera 24/7?
Deterance (sp?) is the real way to go.
I think I am going to put a fuel cut off switch in this weekend, and then tie it in to my alarm system as well.
Anyways, too long of a post.
