Default R owners, please help me out!!!

I know this should be in the general forum but I want to ask you guys and girls what I can do?

I really want my brother to stop street racing but he will not listen to me at all. I am afraid for his life every damn day. I am just waiting for that phone call from my mom to tell me that my brother has died street racing or that he is in jail for life for vehicular manslaughter. I should not have to live every day worrying about that.

Everyday when I come home from work, he has a story to tell me or a video to show me of him street racing at stop lights. Every time he shows me, I just call him a ******* idiot, then he tells me to shut up and not to worry about it because he knows how to handle his car. I just tell him he is running on pure luck. I know its stupid to street race even if it is on a closed road but it is a little safer than what my brother does. In some of his videos, I see grocery stores and other places in the background which means it is on a main street which I really hate him doing. My brother has a B16 hatchback and he thinks he is the fastest thing that ever hit the street. He is always trying to challenge me, but when I say NO, he just calls my a pus and says I am afraid to lose to the hatch. Sometimes I just feel like grabbing his keys and taking his car down the street and blowing the engine and just give him $1500 bucks to start all over again. At least that can buy me a little time.

I am just extremely paranoid because back in Sept. I just got in a really bad street bike accident and I was in the hospital for a week and out of work for 8 weeks. (I was on the back of the bike with just a helmet and no leathers). And just last week, my friend died in a car accident (not street race related), so I am very worried.

Any help would be very thankful.

P.S. My brother is only 19 yrs. old, so he thinks he is invincible

Sign up both him and you for an HPDE (drivers school type track event). If you can afford it, treat him to the sign-up fee. He'll gain a whole new appreciation for "going fast" and maybe he won't be so eager to do so on the street.

Hopefully, it'll be a positive experience instead of something that could lead to far worse. You know the saying about how they might know just enough to be dangerous. Just playing devils advocate.

I'd stick with autocrossing first. There are prizes/trophies (competition) involved and it's a good way to get in tune with the right minded community.

like other ppl said.....take him to local autoX, let him "feel" and try how easy he could lose control of his car at just 2nd gear.

Hopefully he will understand he is not always in control of his car when he's doing 100 mph+.

Why dont you go with him and see what he really does go through, and watch out for him at least.

Show him articles and news reports of ppl dying b/c of street racing.

Speak to mom and dad, maybe they can help.

Yeah, I also hope it will be a positive experience for him, that is if he even signs up . He is pretty stuborn(spelling ). and stupid, he would probably tell me he already knows how to drive. He doesn't really have any money right now. He is a certified EMT and now he is looking for a job. I keep telling him that he won't get a job as a EMT if his driving record is screwed up but he still doesn't care. I have money but I don't want to spend that much money on him to go to HPDE if it is not even going to do anything for him. We have had so many arguments about this and now I am out of ideas. I know people learn from their mistakes but this is one mistake I don't want him to learn from.

I don't have any horror stories but I was at a light on my way home at 2 AM. A little CRX pulled up to me (240sx). I knew I had him but I did it anyway. Cops saw us at the light reving my engine. Arrest and release. Over $1000 in fines, traffic school, and $7000 in increased insurance over 3 years while holding SR22. I was 19. My parents already kicked me out cause I though I was tough stuff. This proved it. Now I am 22 and just now enjoying "cheap" insurance with out SR22 and the ticket that got me there. Show him this post.

DUDE trust me. ****'s expensive when you get caught. And trust me...you'll get caught.

Thank you for all the advice guys. I appreciate it. I also forgot to tell you guys that he was racing a couple weeks ago and after he was done racing, he came home and didn't notice someone follwed him home. I was outside cleaning my car, when I see my brother pull up to the house and there was some big lifted truck following right behind him. my brother pulls right into the driveway and the guy in the truck pulls right behind him. When the guy gets out of the truck, he shows my brother a badge. The guy happened to be a off duty police officer. He was so pissed off. He was theatening my brother saying he should take him to jail right now and impound his car. The cop told my brother if he ever see's anything like that again, he will take him down right then and there. My brother was soooo lucky. Then my brother just brushed it off and went racing that night. How stupid can you get.

Autocrossing stopped my need for street racing. It's more fun, takes more talent, and the best part is that you don't have to look in the rear view for flashing lights.

Try everything you can to show him how stupid it is. If he doesn't listen then you will have to just let nature take its course. One thing you don't want to do is resort to messing up his car no matter how right you think you are. He will only be even more pissed at you.

Here in Texas they are cracking down hardcore. I have a street racing charge against me right now. Before everyone freaks out I wasn't street racing. A buddy was following me and we were speeding a little bit but not racing. We were both pulled over and thrown in jail and both cars were impounded. So far its only been a $500 lawyer fee, a $130 to get the car out, and no telling how much the fine is going to be but it is money I could have used to make a car payment or something. All in all its not worth it.

Unfortunately maybe he needs to get caught and punished by the law to really teach him a lesson. Having his license taken away and car impounded might make him think differently.

Just wait till he sees the "white light".

My little brother was the same till he had a serious accident while in the Air Force in Japan.
Now he's just a reborn Christian with an attitude.

I had a similar situation with a cousin, I always refused to race him and he would call me an old chump, etc. So after my guys told me how stupid he was getting on the street...I called him out at one of his hang outs...I told him he was an amature, if he wanted to race for real to bring his car to my house that weekend and i would load it on my trailer and pay for him to race at the autox with me. Of course he said "lets do it now, are you scared" trying to be all tuff in front of his friends. I replied "no Im not scared of you Im scared you might kill yourself trying to keep up". long story short he and his friends showed up at my house and followed me to the track (a couple of his friends raced also). the first heat he was so discouraged from getting his *** spanked from me and everyone else on the track that he's dedicated his life to autox-n-. He sleeps at the track trying to get in enough practice to beat me. He never quits. Ive been thinking of letting him beat me one day but that may put him back on the streets. so good luck bro.

Take him to the nearby hospital, and show him what happened to the once that wasn't so lucky. Sometimes scare tactics are the only thing that works.

You seem like a loving brother! I respect that!

Obviously nothing is going to get his attention but some good old-fashion experience. I never condone street racing even on a deserted road. But if he's racing down the middle of town in broad daylight, he's beyond stupid! I appreciate your concern for your brother but if need be, try to find a cop you can talk to & tell him the situation. Maybe a couple of reckless driving tickets & mandantory driving school will dig deep enough in his wallet to @ least get him to think. Good luck!

Your little brother is an IDIOT. Do your parents know about his dangerous and foolish behavior? They should take his car away. I would think your friend's recent death and your horrible bike accident would compel him to slow down. I hope he wakes up before it's too late..

find out where he races... and call the cops on him.

give them a good description of the car/tag # and let him deal with loosing his car and some jail time/fines.

walking to the bus stop for a few months will change his attitude.

or just beat his ***.
