Default parking brake?

what is the "recommended" life of a stock parking brake? a friend of mine said that you should change out your parking brake like every 7-10k miles...is he just crazy, or should i change my parking brake pad?

huh? what? you and your friend are crazy. There is no parking brake pad, like Cougar said, it locks the rear caliper. You may want to adjust the parking brake, but there is no pad to buy, and you could get away with adjusting your parking brake every 30k miles or so.

Like others have said, you dont change the parking break, when I bought my car the parking break had never been adjusted, I had to pulll it up like 9 inches for it to engage.

Does any damage occur if you use the parking break to stop your car everytime. Sometimes I do this when my brake pads start to squeak a lot.

yeha when i first bought my car i thought it had a seperate drum in the rear with shoes for the ebrake like some car's i've seen. but i guess to make **** cheaper/more fun, they have it lokc the rear caliper. makes it a lot easier to do ebrakes... oh yeha and in the snow when i gotta stop in a hurry i apply the brakes then pull smoothly up on the e brake to evenly distribute braking force and it will cut down my stopping distance a lot. gotta be carful tho. really easy to get sideways.

it just wears out your rear pads faster. and the worst that can happen is snapping the cable or warping your rotors.
