Default '04 Liter bikes

'04 is an interesting year for the liter class. No longer is the GSX-R1000 head and shoulders above the competition.

The choices....

1. Honda CBR 1000RR
Pros: Lots of RC211V influence, undertail exhaust
Cons: New platform, heaviest bike in class

2. Kawasaki ZX-10R
Pros: Light weight, lots of power...
Cons: New platform...

3. Yamaha YZF-R1
Pros: Best looking bike IMO, 180hp!, undertail exhaust
Cons: New platform...

4. Suzuki GSX-R1000
Pros: Most established platform in the liter bike class, more immediately available aftermarket support
Cons: Oldest platform and design in the class, most popular bike on the road, no undertail exhaust

So let me know what you think. The above is just my opinon. Im looking to buy a bike in June but not sure if im ready to step it up to a liter bike, still too much safety issues for me.

Number 2 should be Kawasaki

I saw a recent dyno of all 4, and the Kawi blew the others away, the Honda being the lowest. If I were in the market for one of them, I'd probably go with the Kawi. Good amounts of power, light weight, and great reviews.

Check out Sport Rider

The ZX-10R may be the fastest, but for the average person, the Honda will be the easist to ride. I have a feeling not many Kawasakis will see the 1000mile mark.

If you're a track racer, just remember who won the Daytona 200. For the street, i would still stick with the GSXR-1000 and it also depends on the rider. Get the one you feel most comfortable sitting on and fits your physique. Good luck.

The bikes at daytona have very little in common with the ones you buy from the showroom. In most cases factory ride they have more in the suspension then you would pay for the bike.
An under tail exhust my look cool but it restricts exhust flow and dosn't leave very many options for moving your licence plates.

Also remember that Kawasaki and Yamaha aren't participating in Superbike. Now look at Supersport. 3 Yamaha's and 2 Kawasaki's in the front five at Daytona. Just keep that in mind.

IMO-

They all look great. At first I was a little uneasy when Suzuki changed the look of the new GSXR's, and went with a front end that looks very similar to the hayabusa, but then again.... I love the mighty busa, and would trade my GSXR1000 for one in a heartbeat.

But I'm happy with my Gixxer liter bike.

Because they would get worked over by the suzukis!

But seriously,

This worries me!

If you don't think your ready for a liter bike, why bother getting one. There are plenty of bikes out there that will be just as fun and just as fast if you learn to ride them instead of getting a 1K that is very difficult to ride very fast unless you really know what your doing!

Don't jump on the 1K until you really feel limited by the 600's and don't forget the new GSXR 750!

Those bikes still haul ***, and are super fun to ride!

We'll just wait and see until the new shootouts come out. I think either the R1 or ZX10R are going to be top dog. Suzuki has had their run, now it's time for a new king.

just so you guys know, that dyno is bullshit. i'd post all the other real dyno's (not graphic made line charts with pretty colors) but i'm too lazy to find the pics and upload them to my host.

here is information from arrow exhausts, who have dyno'd the bikes with their stock exhaust :

4000rpm:
CBR-46 ps
ZX10-38 ps
YZF-35 ps

5000rpm:
All are the same here.About 60 ps

6000rpm:
CBR-82 ps
ZX10-75 ps
YZF-76 ps

7000rpm:
CBR-100 ps
ZX10-97 ps
YZF-80 ps(the weak point in R1s powerband)

8000rpm:
CBR-120 ps
ZX10-115 ps
YZF-113 ps

9000rpm:
CBR-136 ps
ZX10-134 ps
YZF-126 ps

10000rpm:
CBR-150 ps
ZX10-149 ps
YZF-144 ps

dyno info :

CBR1000RR»
Temperature 23 °C
Pressure 974 mmHg

ZX10R»
Temperature 23 °C
Pressure 978 mmHg

No Suzuki dyno?

And I would really like to see what the, as you say, "real" dyno numbers are at higher rpms. I think the r1 isnt makin peak hp until like 12.5k, but this is from memory so please feel free to correct me.

If you believe every dyno chart a Product developer post I have a bridge to sell you too. Muzzy is claming 172 with a slip-on and 177 with race gas too, so what are you gonna believe? I don't believe any of them.

I don't like it when they compare dyno runs, especially when they didn't do them at the same time under the same circumstances. And also dyno's don't factor in weight, aerodynamics, and everything else. The ZX10R is supposed to have the best power- weight ratio in the class, but Yamaha has been known for making some pretty light motorcycles with big motors. (Hence the R1 for the past 5 years) So again, we will just have to wait and see when they do a complete shootout with all the new liter bikes and the Suzuki at the same time.

First of all, for the guy that posted about suzuki winning the 200. Big deal! You are talking about completely different monsters! Those bikes cost upwards of $100,000 vs. bikes you can buy for 8-10,000. So far on our dyno we have tested all four bikes, and the R1 has come out on top. All bikes had the same performance mods: race exhaust, nutec race fuel, degreed cams, remap. The R1 came out with 181.5hp to the rear wheel, 178.8 for the Gsxr, 175.6 for the ZX, and 174.9 for the CBR. These are all corrected on our computer to compensate for temperature difference, humidity, etc, etc. After all the numbers, its personal preference in looks. My choice would be the R1!

I like the R1 as well, I think it looks really nice, but so do all except the CBR IMO!

The part the worries me about your post is the remap. There is a huge difference between someone that knows how to map a bike, and someone that thinks they do!
Not saying you or whoever doesn't, just stating that!

Also, I would rather see the dyno that hear top numbers because from what I have seen from stock dynos, the Gix would get away because of the better torque curve and the most HP until about 8-10K!

At any rate, they are all sweet bikes and I am glad I don't have to deal with that power yet!

The sad part is the number of people out there that think they are ready for a 180hp to the wheel motorcycle!

I have been working on and tuning CCS and AMA racers motorcycles at our shop in Fl for about 6 years. Before that I was a dealership mechanic, I have been to all Suz, Yam, Kaw, and Honda schools and new model updates for the past 8 years, trust me I know how to remap a bike. We have tuned bikes for: Doug Pollen, Larry Pegram (doing his R1 and R6 right now), Jamie James, Mike Ciccotta, Mike Barnes, Jamie Bowman(RIP) just to name a few. Not trying to sound like a big shot or anything, just showing my experience and knowledge.

Once again, I'll have to say how much I love the "best bike has the highest HP" comments. Congrats to yamaha for making a bike that will kill normal riders like most of us more easily. 99% of us won't tap the full potential of any literbike, and 100% of us won't do it on the street, thats for sure. Buy something you like and are comfortable with, not the fastest 2 wheel drag machine.

soooo perfectly true, 99% of the people who ride brand new bikes won't even touch the full ptotential of their bikes...that being said, its all about peice of mind, knowing that your bike has more horsepower than 70% of the cars that are made no a days is good enough for alot of people.

I don't think so. The 'cow'asaki is the ugliest of them all. With the Suzuki not too far behind it.

For real tho, how many of you can tell the difference if one of them has 2.4 more hp? Not too many. Just ride what you think you can handle.

Here is the hottness...

Ride red. (or black in this case)
