car not starting 88-91 jdm b16a
ok here's the deal.
The fuel pump and ecu needed replaced so we replaced that, now the car will not start. I know the battery needs replaced but when we charge it and try to start the car it will not start. It gets real weak spark I bought the car from a friend he told me the distributor and relay were replaced when he swaped the motor. What else is left to check, any input is greatly appreacted.

replace the batterey, just because you charged doesn't mean your going to get the best spark. Replace Batterey, Cap, Plugs, and Wires......then check it and see what the problem could be. Also make sure when he replaced the dizzy he lined it up correctly, and that all the wiring is correct.
be more specific, has it always been like this or was it giving you troubles and now its just shot?
The battery shouldnt have a big affect on the ignintion system IN A SENSE, if you trickle charged it and its getting atleast 12.5 static volts then that is more then enough to fire the coil. Remember guys ignition systems (in our cars) are magnetic pickups, it uses small amounts of voltage in a thick wire to create a magnetic voltage, when you turn that wire off the magnetic field collapses and it goes on to the thinner but more plentiful secondary windings creating your spark at the distributor.
Alls the battery does is give the starter juice, produce enough voltage to the ignitor, fuel pump, and all relays/accesories hobla jubla krap.
If your getting weak spark, sure check the dizzy, as well as your ignition switch...of course replace the battery to its junk but you should be able to start the car as long as its charged.

ok when I got the car from my friend he told me (also the shop I picked it up from said) the ECU and fuel pump was fried. He put a 40 amp fuse in a 10 amp slot on the ECU and fried it. They (the shop) said it was getting spark but no fuel when they used their ecu. So I replaced the ecu (PR3) and fuel pump ( Walbro 255lph) everything checked out with the fuel pump( no leaks ect ) well now the spark is weak and the car won't start. That is where i am now with this thing, I am new to this and I am trying to learn as much as possible.
I think the dzzy may not be lined up, or you need a new dizzy. Maybe the cap isn't getting a good contact.....i would check from the plugs to the distributor now.
Well alls I have to say is you opened up a whole new can of worms, and Ill have to read over your post a few times and think to myself what you could be experiencing, hopefully you find it before I throw out some ideas, but if your not in a big hurry then just chill and Ill see if I can help you.

does the fuel pump actually work now, or do you just assume it works because you replaced it ? take off yoru gas cap and put your ear to the filler hose and see if you hear a buzzing sound when you turn the key on, if you hear it then it works.
then you can do the basic coil, cap, wires, plugs
