Default diy icebox question

i am almost done working on a diy icebox and i was just wondering what the angle of the opening should be at. should it be straight forward pointing at the corner lense? or should it be angled down a bit? what is the icebox's angle?

Not compared to a stock non-R intake that sucks in air from the engine bay. It might lose 1-2hp compared to a stock R intake that already draws air from inside the fender.

Patrick are you saying that any semi-decently done DIY job (eg. remove resonator, 2.5-3" flex/pvc piping from front bottom fender to airbox with aftermarket/oem filter) will generally NOT lose power?
I've been considering it for awhile for my LS, but still haven't seen concrete info on pros and cons.......

I haven't seen any conclusive dyno tests of any DIY intakes vs. a stock non-R intake. I have seen dyno tests of a DIY icebox (the one Bret aka BSQ pioneered) vs. a stock ITR intake, and the DIY showed an average of 1-2 less hp.

But just going by the fact that the non-R intakes draw air from inside the engine compartment makes me assume that a simple tube w/ smooth inside surface, drawing air from behind the turn signal and leading straight into the airbox would be better than the stock intake.

I don't think the angle matters very much since it's inside the bumper and not getting direct air flow.

BSQ (and myself also) used a subwoofer enclosure plastic port as a velocity stack.

i did the DIY ice box before i had my full cold air. If u seperate the pipe that goes up into the filter box from that giant collector it works pretty well for costing next to nothing. (i used some 60 cent zip ties to hold the up pipe into place) I noticed a diffrence compared to stock, def a nice little gain on top end power (no loss in botom end tourqe as i found with a true cold air)

I actualy might go back to this setup with a few more mods to it when i do my jackson racing charger, as it puts the throttle body at a slightly diffrent angle and may render my 180$ CAI useless.

Can some of you post some pics of your DIY ice box, not sure who it was who used the turn signal as the inlet?

i dont have a pic but, when i did mine i used the turn signal opening as a direct inlet when i was at the track. i just used some 2 1/2 inch tubing to run it to the inlet. works pretty well.

I was planning on that, but I remember that someone actually cut half of the turn signal out so it was a permenant feed.
