Would you pass up this deal?
ok so here it is...im 16 and looking to buy my first car (yeah!) i wanted 5spd but i found an offer that is too good to pass up...a very clean 96 ls with a lil over 100k on it (planning on rebuilding any engine i get so im not too concerned with mileage)..for only a 1000 bucks. Heres the problem: its auto...do you guys think its worth it if i grab it now and then eventually rebuild it and convert it to 5sp after im done having fun with it?...or juss buy it and sell it for more $$..juss lookin for some other options..thnx

as long as the car can run for a while until you save enough money for a rebuild, i'd say go for it... but be mindful of what other potential repairs it might be needing before you commit.

I agree, i personally wouldnt "settle" with an automatic when what i really want is a 5sp.

a 5spd conversion isnt really that expensive, especially if your only gettin the car for $1k
i had the conversion done one my car and havent been happier, although i have alot of mods my car still runs quite well considering all that has been done to it.
was an auto LS now its a boosted 5spd LS runnin uber data only thing i switched out was the tranny, even had a cable trans put in it(hasport works wonders)

i think you should buy it, for 1000 thats hella cheap, but the 5speed conversion will be alot of work and can lead to alot of potential problems... if you are willing to commit to something like that then go for it!
damn $1k...definately buy it and resell it, thats worth at least 3-4k, did you check to see if the title is clean and look at it in person? has to be a reason theyre selling it so cheap.
im gunna look at in person sometime during the week hopefully, if everything is clean im gunna grab it and then see what happens...prolly keep for a bit and throw on a vtec head on it or sumthing for the summer
Think about what you're planning on making the car into, and then consider if its just cheaper to pick up a decent condition LS, or a GS-R right off the bat.
Once you start modding/fixing, the money can add up really quick. I've found that its cheaper to buy what you want in the first place.
