Machined head with decked block.....waht to do?
I recently had a local machine shop build my LS/VTEC (shouts to Paul at Carquest here in NC for the awesome hand he has lent me in getting this thing done).
I am having trouble as to what i should actually do without a dyno to insure I am running somewhere closer to right. So here is my set up:
b18a block bored to 81.5mm and decked
b18b crank and rods
81.5 ITR pistons/rings (made by a company called TopLine that makes exact replica pistons, coated, webbed and marked p73...the whole 9 yards so...shhh)
92 JDM SIR2 head, manifold, and cams
STR adjustable cam gears
stock valves
dual valve springs (SIR intake side, ITR exhaust side)
Ti retainers of some brand
OEM Honda b18b head gasket
To my knowledge the machine of the head was only an advisor/suggested milling to resurface it for a good seal as with the block being decked.
The main problem I am having is what to set my cams at to compensate for the change in timming due to the machine work. When we set the IGN timming I had to roll my dist. all the way until it stopped. And that was with the adj gears at 0 degrees so do i retard them to get closer to the red mark or do I want some advance for my approx 11.1/2:1 motor to pull it's hardest for now????
I may have a problem with timing as I was always told to use an vtec belt with all vtec gears (crank gear, water pump, cam gears). but it seems from reading my water pump I was given a PR4 pump from a dealership in the past and the gear on the crank is from an LS....how bad does this matter??
