Default Breather on intake mani B18a

Hey, you know the tube that comes up from that black square canister underneath the intake manifold to the right of the oil filter on a B18a. I broke the thing, and was wondering if i could run a straight tube from the canister to the intake mani. the problem is, the part that i broke is the "L" piece that mounts to the intake mani. it has a little spring and plunger deal, and i am wondering if i need that for it to breath correctly. Thanks to all that can help. EF squad
