Test drive the S2K, you will liek the R better I think.
Personally, I think the S2K is just an over-glorified Miata. In about 5-7 years, the only thing it will be good for is a track *****.
Plus, why not just pay the R off with the extra money you have? Owning a car is always nice

The S2000 is what I consider to be a panty dropper. You get stared at soooo much. It is eye candy. The R is a race car. The S2000s have had some documented problems with the tranny, clutch and differential. I had a friend that traded his in for a Supra after 3 clutch repairs, rear diff replacement and rear cv axle replacement all under warranty. The S2000 is extremely difficult to get HP out of. If you're gonna get the car, expect to only upgrade suspension components and take what you get out of the box performancewise. You will most likely spend thousands of performance dollars and only net 3-8 HPs on a good day.

If you track the car expect regular problems. Breakdowns aren't unfamiliar with stock S2000s. I personally like the car. So I'm not into putting one down in the other's favor. I'm stating what is constantly a topic of concern on the S2000 forums. Honda's venture into the rear wheel drive market is met with weaknesses. And it didn't take long for the weaknesses to show. As stated before my friend had a more problems than expected along with others. He wasn't the only one. He owned the car for 1 year and possessed the car for 8.5 months the rest of the time it was at the Honda dealership either having the problems diagnosed and repaired.
The only way I would have a S2000 if I can own both the R and the S. No way I'm giving up my R! (Let's just say that your chance of finding a mint S2000 5 years from now will be higher than trying to find an R in a mint cond.

"If there is a weakness in the S2000 at the track it's that you can't do this with it ...

that is totally true. an s2000 at the track last week came with slicks, and had to drive back home with slicks. well on his way out of the track, just driving normally.. he crashed it hard core.

I loved my R immensly, I sold it, and now I'm getting an s2k. It's not as pratical, it's harder to drag (both cars aren't made for it anyway), and you'll get a lot more attention, mostly from women. I found that I got a shitload of attention from guys all over when I drove my R around. Most girls think it's another integra. The s2k on the other hand...
Bottom line for me is, the s2k is more fun. It's convertible, fast, has a wonderful powerband (just like our R's) and it's rwd. I drove several other cars in the class. The only one I thought was comparable was the Boxter S. The 3 liter Z3 is nice, but it's just not as fun as the honda. I also know several people who have tracked the hell out of their s2ks without problems.
Just now I have to wait for my damned 02 to come in. Silver/black.
anyway that's my $0.02

why would you get a car to get attention from women??? i think i must live a sheltered life or maybe it's because i'm white but i never get any love from any womens when i'm driving.... what's the secret???
just keep the r. just think of the mod money you will have that $100 os $1200 in a year(yes i am good at math) that is almost enough for some spec b's or a couple of smaller mods.
in the end it doesn't matter what anyone here says its all up to you. unles you want to sell me your R for 5 bucks plus shipping,

11 Hondas in 5 years.
I gave up 00-00981 for an S2000. No regrets.
They are different cars for different people, expect that.
Also expect to leave the car in a movie parking lot and not worry about some kid stealing it to stuff your B18C5 into his 92 CX.
Women DIG the S2000, my wife loves to drive it.
Yoshi sent me questions via email and I sent an honest email back.
If you have specific questions, please email me.

Funny, I was thinking about this same thing on the drive home from work tonight... but then I saw 3 used S2000s in 3 different used car lots - you would never see ITRs like that. Made me realize that one reason I love the R so much is it only come in limited numbers and the owners are fanatics...
yeah i was talking to a guy at a honda dealership awhile ago.... he said fer like the 2001 year honda go 2000 s2000's for california alone..... compared to the roughly 1500 type-r's nationwide
Pluses, the ITR is limited. Under 1600 I think this year '01. It's a blast! One of the best car in it's class!
S2000 is a faster car and cost more to modify. I'd pick the '02 S2K + hardtop if I had all the money.
