thermostat
I have a 97 GSR. I did a search but not much help. I am trying to get the lower bolt out of the thermostat housing out. The search said to use an open ended wrench or a deepsocket, swivel, and extensions. I have no idea how any one would be able to get an open ended wrench in there, and I tried the swivel with a deepsocket with no luck. If I use a deepsocket or normal socket the swivel hits the starter. Has any one else had luck with these approaches?
thanks

I did a thermostat on a B16A yesterday. I removed the intake and took a small 10mm wrench and moved it about 1/4 of a turn at a time. Once I got it out a little further I took a 10mm socket and put it over the end and twisted that with my fingers.
Good luck

Yes I just did the one on my 95 GSR and I used a swivel. What size swivel are you using? With a swivel its a easy job. Its kind of a weird angle but stay after it you'll get it. All you have to do is get it started and you should be able to turn the rest by hand.

I just replaced my radiator and thermostat on my GS-R last week. I tried using my 3/8" swivel but it wouldn't fit. A 1/4" swivel might have fit but I didn't have one.
To make it easier, remove the coolant temp sensor. Even still, though, the starter and the large wire harness right there gets in the way. What I did was loosen the bolt w/ my wrench, then I was able to get a 1/4" 10mm socket on the bolt, and then turn the socket with my thumb and middle finger, by grasping the socket around the wire harness. It's kinda hard to explain, just imagine having the wire harness passing thru your hand down where your thumb meets your hand, and then using your thumb and middle fingers to turn the socket.
Once it gets loose enough, you can take the socket off (careful, don't drop it!) and then turn the bolt itself by hand using the same method (thumb and middle finger grasping around the wire harness).
thanks

Thanks for the help, I was using a universal swivel attachment but that was too long. I ended up going to Sears and getting a 10mm swivel socket, it came right off with that.
