timing belt position
i am putting in cams and springs, and i was just wondering how to put my timing belt back in the right position. i have heard that if you dont get it right you can bend your valves, and i dont want to do this. also any other pointers on changing cams and spring would help, i have found info on a few sites but im still a little scared of messing up.

Just make sure to get the crankshaft lined up at TDC #1 piston (line up the marks on the crank pulley and the timing cover, or the marks on the crank timing belt pulley and the block, and make sure the arrows on both cam gears point up, and the index mark between the 2 gears lines up. Do all that and install the timing belt as described by the Helms or Haynes manuals and go through the proper tensioning sequence and you should have no problem. When you turn the crank pulley during the tensioning sequence, if it feels like it won't turn, stop and check out everything because a piston and valve might be hitting. Just make sure to turn the crank slowly until you're sure you have it right.
