yet another prob with my b16...need help
ok, another problem just started happening. I have a b16 first gen in my 91 std hatch. I had just finished the swap. Car was running fine except that the idle was a little high. Anyways, my tach started jumping up and down like if it was been flicked or something, after it was happening for a while, the car started bogging out. Now its to the point where im driving and the rpms will drop to 0 and it won't go, it won't stall though. I turn it off and back on, and it will run for like 20 seconds then do the same thing. What could be wrong? And now im getting a code 7. Need help.
i reset the ecu, code 7 went away. Took it out for a spin and it still doing the same thing. I'm going with the ignitor then. Anything else that it could be?
not sure maybe u should go check a shop manual or chiltons at a local store to see what it is if its a sensor itll be there. if not check ignition system and fuel system.

Just like was said above, its your ignitor. The tach receives a signal from the ignitor and that is a common "symptom" when one goes bad. HTH
I had the same problem a while back, have your alternator checked out. That fixed my problem, maybe its yours to. its worth the time and an easy fix.
You can use an ignitor from any 88-91 Civic or 90-91 teg. Buy OEM new so you will know this part wont fail. BTW autozone, pep boys ignitors are JUNK! Buy one and I guarantee within a yr it will have failed.
yeah, ef b16, ok, took it to the shop. Told me my tb was messed up so they changed it and they changed the ignitor, but the tach is still jumping around sometimes. Car is running now. Only sometimes it feels like it bogs.
