Default Gearing, LS vs Si vs GSR

Anyways, my 2000 GSR tranny took a crap. In my eyes with all the problems, its not worth rebuilding. I have one question for you all, how do the LS, SI and GSR trannys compare? What are the final drives, etc? Its a possibility I may be going boost, can someone give me a bit of feedback in which direction to go?

Well, if you plan on going all motor, I would use the Si tranny. Its the shortest of the 3. If you are boosting I would use the GSR tranny. I dont know if the LS tranny is worth using...maybe for highway fun but thats about it.

If you drive on the highway I wouldnt get a GSR or SI tranny for an LS motor. Its too high an rpm in 5th at like 70-75.

People can debate this all day and all night, but, here's my .02 on the situation.

Your B18C1 transmission: The B16A2 Tranny: The LS Tranny:

1st 3.230 3.230 3.230
2nd 1.900 2.105 1.900
3rd 1.360 1.458 1.269
4th 1.034 1.107 0.966
5th 0.787 0.848 0.714
FD 4.400 4.400 4.266

The B16 tranny is going to allow you to accelerate faster than your B18c1 tranny.
The LS tranny will be significantly longer and will make your car probably feel slower. No matter which route you choose, the short ratio transmission will give you faster acceleration, and no, it will hardly sacrafice fuel efficiency. How much you have your foot in the throttle will determine your fuel economy.

Hope that helped you out.

Guys that helped alot, and ScreaminTeg, thanks sooo much for posting all the gear ratios for each gear and final drive, makes my decision so much easier. I didnt think Id want to go with the B16 tranny...I may be going boost soon, so Im aiming towards another GSR.

just food for thought---I was told the Si trannys are sooo short that some of the turbos dont spool up quick enough. GSR would be your best bet imo

Common Myth. Any streetable turbo setup won't be using a turbo so big that it will require longer gearing to spool properly. If I were running a turbo setup, I'd get a small, fast spooling setup and a JDM ITR tranny (B16 1st, 2nd, and 3rd gears, GSR 4th and 5th with a 4.785 FD). Honestly you'd need a pretty damn big turbo to not spool enough during any particular gear, especially being that Honda engines rev past 8000 rpms.

The B16 is the same thats in the ITR. So if u've driven an itr, you know where your gearings will be. The only difference is ITR has LSD w/ it.

IF u go boost. i'd use the LS tranny for longer gears. Or gsr w/ LS 5th gear.

I want to swap out my B18c1 tranny for the b16 "itr" tranny. When im lined up w/ my friends ITR from a roll from like... lets say 30/40. we love to just goof around and do 5th gear runs, or 4th gear runs. and as soon as he hits it u can tell the gearings bettter cuz he just starts pullin.

You might also want think about using the close ratios on the gsr tranny with an ls final drive. that would help you to get some more time between shifts. That would definitely help the turbo motor. But if not you should definitely look into an ls tranny from 94 up. the ratios are a bit closer tham the ys1.

thanks for the words.....i wish i could afford to piece together a custom tranny with a nice LSD.

Seems like the GSR has optimal gearing for a nice T3 street setup, I dont want too short of a gear or else I wont hold boost throughout the gears. Looks like my performance mods and other plans are set back once again due to this tranny.... :-(
