Default 2.2 vtec 4ws and abs light problem

well, what do you know, you fix one problem and along comes another!
for some reason as soon as i start the car
the abs light and the 4ws light come on and then stay on
, no idea what the problem is and can't look at it til weekend
so i thought i'd pick your brains before i get the big hammer out
and smash the crap out of the car.
tried leaving it for 15 mins to no avail cos they come on
after i leave the car overnight.
looked on alldata and there doesn't appear to be any recalls
for this problem,

anyone got a clue cos i know a lot of you had this problem last year
and i can't see any solution in any of your posts

is your brake light on as well as the ABS and 4WS?

I would check the level of your brake and abs fluid. If your brake light is on the ABS will shut off, then in 5 mins I believe the 4WS will shut off. It some fail safe thing.

So for the ABS to work the 4ws has to be working as well?

No ABS will work if the 4WS is not working.

What I meant was that if your brake dash light is on it will shut off the ABS and the 4WS. Neither can work if the brake light is on.

Well my abs light was on and the 4ws worked fine off and on as usual...does the brake light or the abs light interfere with 4ws? Or am I all mixed up with all these lights?

the ABS light on will not effect the 4WS. It is only the RED BRAKE light that will shut the 4WS off.

The jumper to check the 4WS is the same on as for the CEL.

Check that all your brake lights are fine then if they are check the code by jumpering your ecu.
