Default EBAY IT or NOT

I am selling my ITR. I have it on autotrader right now. I have had a few phone calls and emails, but nothing concrete yet. I have had it on autotrader for about 4 days now. I was just wondering if ebay would be an alternative to autotrader. Don't kill me, but I am asking $20K on autotrader, but I have that the price is neg. I rather not take nothing less than $17K, I think the $20K is scarying away potential buyers.

So, to sum it up. Is $20K to much to ask even if the price is neg.?
And, is ebay a good alternative.

I want to have her sold by the beginning of May. I have a deposit on an 05 STI and it will be here in May.

Thanks,

Cars seem to sell for well under their blue book value on eBay. I would not risk it unless you set a high reserve.

Also, without knowing the mileage on you car, it is hard to judge how realistic your price is.

eBay is a rather last resort. If there isn't a reserve, you usually won't get the price you want.

Depends on the mileage and condition. I'd say the current going price for 00-01 ITRs in great condition with 30k miles or so will go for 18k-19k.

Took me two months to sell mine on autotrader. Lots of lowballers, lots of high school kids with wide eyes trying to make stupid trade offers.

PS - mine sold for $20k... 18 months ago. Mostly stock (JDM header only) and 26k miles. 2000 #0009

You also have to remember that there are usually a lot of other ITR's on autotrader, and many of them at much lower prices.

Yep,..def keep it on Autotrader..Ebay will not get what you want unless its a Steal!

When I put my 350Z( w/all types of extras) on Autotrader...I had calls and emails within the 1 st hour...and then like everyday after that as well,..but everyone is ALWAYS BULLSHITTIN.
Put it on ebay and got up to like I think 35+ bids and it still wasn't even close to my reserve when it endedl!!!!

Just be paitient..it'll happen on Autotrader

Yes, I suspect not to get 20K for it, but 17-18K will be okay. Its condition is great, but it has 57K miles. However, it does have a JDM front end with mugen bumper, wings west sideskirts, and carbon hood. I just think that if I ended up having to trade it in at the Subaru dealership they would only give me 14$ thousand if I am lucky or not take it at all because of the front end being JDM.

Your thoughts?

$14k is actually not a bad trade with the non-stock stuff on there. I was offered $16k by an import car dealer straight-up back in the day.

A friend of mine just traded hers in to Lexus 00 PY stock 33K miles, they gave her 14700 and the mechanic bought it that day.

I sold my last car (my Miata) on ebay for more than I expected to get. I started the bidding at $5K and "hoped" I would get that. The bidding started within a day and stayed at $5K for a week. During the last 30 minutes it jumped up to $5500.

So yeah, I definitely had a great experience with ebay.

With the high mileage and the mods, it will be difficult to get $18K or even $17K. I would probably post the Autotrader ad with an asking price of $17,500 and hope to haggle down to an actual selling price of $15K or so. Maybe $16K if you're willing to wait a long, long time.

You would get less than that by selling/trading it to a dealer, but you could make up the difference in sales tax if you're trading it in (in most states except California).

20k is kinda steep.. i bought my 00 fbp for 16,500 in california, im the second owner and the car has 35k on it. 20k would be reasonable if you had like under 30k on the car.. good luck man

when will everyone realize this isnt a democracy when selling a car.

its about supply and demand. and in a itr case, there is a limited supply, and strong demand.

if you want to tell someone his car is worth bluebook, all 98' itrs are now worth 8500 dollars. Does anyone ever sell it for 8500? maybe the retarded people who listen to the other retards to sell it for blue book cuz its "kinda steep"

you could take a itr and sell it for 18k, or 20k.

Getting 20k may take an extra month. is it worth it? all subjective.

Not necessarily.

Take an '01 that has 20K miles and is bone stock in mint condition. You can sell that for $18K in three days, and it may take a month to sell it for $20K.

Take a '97 that has 120K miles and has some less-than-desirable mods. You can ask $20K for it and it will sit around unsold forever.

Sure, you can get a little more if you are patient. But you can't get more than the car is worth on the market, due to supply and demand.

I don't think this particular car can EVER sell for $20K. Not today, not six months from now.

The good news is, you don't have to believe me, or anybody. You can list if for whatever you want, and ask whatever you want. If you ask too much, it won't sell. If you sell it, then it's worth what you sold it for. If you get more than we think you can, good for you! Just don't be surprised if it turns out you can only get what people here said you could get for it; most of the folks here are pretty close with the market and know what these cars are changing hands for.

I agree. I don't really expect it to sell for 20K but that is why i put NEG.

The only mods really are exterior. For example, Carbon fiber hood, metal jdm front end, wings west side skirts, and 3m mirrors. I still have factory mirrors also. I will keep it on autotrader. Keep in there until the end of April when my STI will be arriving and then drop it to 18 obo.

I am really not in a hurry, because if it sells now I would be driving a rental car for the next month and half. And the 05 STI expected delivery is late April or May. They never really gave me a date. And I know there are still new 04 STI's running around that I could probably get an awesome deal for. Maybe I should look into trading it for a new 04, but it is going to be hard to get the color and options I want to something that has been sitting at a dealership.

I am hoping for the best. Either way it is almost paid off, and I could keep it, but i rather not pay insurance for 2 vehicles. I am single and live alone so it wouldn't really be worth having two cars for me. Now, an sti and a truck would be a different story.

Thanks for all of you comments and advice. I'll keep checking back with ya'll

I agree the miles are 57K, but that really isn't that much in my mind. I can only hope for the best and it goes to a good buyer that appreciates it.

I have made some changes on autotrader. Please read the ad and let me know what you think or what I may want to change. I have lowered the price also.

Thanks,

It looks good to me. You must be in a real hurry to sell the car. $18k seems kinda low for the car. I would've asked $19k OBO and see what kind of respond I get.

I did have it for $20K Cosworth, but wasn't getting any motivated sellers. I do need to sell it within a month and a half.

Maybe. Maybe not. If not, you can always lower it again.

Give it a couple of weeks, and see what kind of action you get from serious buyers. (Just ignore the lowballers.)

Good luck, and keep us posted.
