Having a strange problem. 3-4 months ago had my 90K service done... at that time had a new alternator, water pump etc. installed. Occasionally the volt meter would drop suddenly from 14v down to around 12, then pop back up. Today when heading down the freeway with my a/c on, it all of a sudden stopped working, battery light, brake light & 4WD light all came on. No blower for my a/c, no cold air. Anybody have any ideas?

The symptoms you mention point directly to the alternator. You say you had a new one put on ... but it may have gone bad again. See this problem at work from time to time.

 

Were you able to resolve this problem. Funny thing, but the EXACT same problem started happening in my 97 passport (85K) today. Same lights come on too. Mine will come on and off intermitantly but the AC/Blower stays off 90% of the time.

Please post if you have any luck figuring it out.

 

Had the alternator replaced about 2 weeks ago... problem cleared up. It was, however, a new alternator that it was replacing. So, we will see if it comes back.
