Default All fo your SMSP dreams will be fulfilled

Well I just talked to Dave, and it's a go.

Here is the deal. 2.5 inch catback, polished stainless steel, 2 resonators and a muffler to keep noise down. A bolt up system, I have suggest in 3 pieces, an axel-back and a 2 piece b-pipe.

Even better news, price tag under $700, and he is going to ahve the ability to fill quit a few orders.

I am typing all this up because it interest me, not gain as far as discount from Dave or anything, just figured you guys would want to hear about a bolt up SMSP catback thats 2.5 inch with no bottle necks. I am sure Dave will be happy to answer any questions, as well as take more ideas and feedback

I now know where all my birthday money will be going!

Well I just figured I would spread the word, cause I am in the market for exhaust, and was dissappointed at the selection (and prices) of 2.5 inch cat back systems.

Dave said he would update me as soon as he found out more, hopefully I can be one of the first to get one, and when I do get it and install it, I will write up a good review with plenty of oics and video.

I should have some pictures of the prototype bends early next week along with one of the resonators. I hope to have this prototype done by Thursday so we can get some audio. I'm building the system on Ed's (Zygspeed) car so maybe we can get some before audio too.

BTW, the car will have a modified DC usdm header, 2-1/2" Carsound cat and my cat back.

Thanks for the plug Dave.

I'm going to be doing a fresh tune-up and some baseline dyno runs with my stock 97 ITR. Then we'll bolt-up the new header, cat and Dave's 2 1/2" cat-back and do some more dyno runs for comparison and testing purposes.

I'm really looking forward to it.
I had one of Dave's earlier 2 1/2" systems before going turbo on my last car and miss it dearly.

After the second set of runs with the 2 1/2" I'll do some more "tuning" and an intake swap to see how much more we can get out of it on stock ITR cams and compression.
Probably another couple weeks before the first of the before and after work is done and info/pics/vids are posted. Ed

$700?

That is pretty expensive. I'd rather get a Kteller system.

Doesn't the smsp catback use manaflow mufflers and resonators?

His old ones did. This new one will use 2 custom resonators and 1 Magnaflow. For pics, search the archives with "SMSP" as the thread starter.

Wouldn't the 2 resonators distort the exhaust pulse causing somewhat of a restiction?

Nice, by any chance would you have an application for a header/exhaust for a 92 Integra?

Dave, those look different than the previous ones you posted. Any reason why? The old ones had "rivets" and look to be "rebuildable". And also were "directional". I'm guessing it would be a cost issue.

I think that's the price for the bolt on system that SMSP is shooting for not the kit. I don't think he's got pricing on the resonators and muffler yet so the system and kit price is still not known. He's told me the tubing prices will be cheaper than kteller. He also said he'd be sending me some photos today of the resonators he'll be using on my car.

I just ordered a number of tuneup parts Monday and should be able to give some realistic before and after dyno numbers as well as mpegs and pictures of the finished product.

smsp didn't you use to use a 22" magnaflow if you did why did you stop using it or how does it perform compared to these resonator? did you change the resonator due to the fact that the 22 is mild steel and you want to keep everything stainless? or was it because of weight? what was your main reason for changing the resonatorto these ones? and what is the new company of resonators that you are using if you dont mind or can you show a pic of the inside. thanks

Only the 14" long Magnaflow resonator was available in a stainless steel casing. I've used many of the 22" long aluminized versions you refer to and they are good pieces. The long resonator in the pictures above is actually longer than the 22" 10436 magnaflow. There is also less chance to catch these new resonators on something in the road due to their tapered designed. I had to modify the short resonator on the side of the gas tank to fit in that space.

My concerns for the prototype system, that I'll be building on Ed's car, is more of fitment of all the pieces and ensuring tubing bend angles are correct. I've specified some changes to the internals and end caps of the resonators pictured above. These changes will help the production system flow better than the system going on Ed's car.

My primary objectives for the production system is to provide the best flowing and quietest system on the market at a price hopefully less than most currently available systems. I hope your dates will not have ringing in their ears at the end of the night and you won't have to sacrifice power due to a silencer being shoved up the tailpipe. From the rear, the system will be more stealth than bling with probably a near stock size tip. The system won't be the lightest on the market due to the (2) resonators and a larger muffler than most systems. This is not a system that I would run on a race car although it should flow near as well to one. I would also hope that less of you will be pulled over by the police for sound and that may save you a few bucks in tickets.
