some thoughts on oil and tranny oil...
Everyone here seems to think(well most everyone) that GM syncromesh is the best, so I head over to the local dealer and they 1.dont stock it and 2.charge 15 bucks a quart??? I thought it was like 11 or 12, but 15?
They did have the regular stuff that isnt friction modified, so I left and went to autozone. They had PENZOIL syncromesh in a yellow tube that looked like it should have gear oil in it. Wasnt sure abou it so I didnt get it.
Then I remember reading about how mobil one synthetic is friction modified... Is there a reason that mobil one would not be a good choice to use in the tranny? The new MTF from honda for 94-and on is suposedly "part synthetic" and with people having such god luck with the full synthetic syncromesh, I just wonder why I havent heard of people using this or any other friction modified synthetic motor oil
heck, what about amsoil?
I am having trouble deciding what to get
should I just use the honda and deal with rough syncros?
thanks sohc

the pennzoil synchromesh (even though it's in a gear-oil looking container), is the same stuff that's in the GM bottle at the dealership. In fact, I think the Pennzoil bottle even references the GM part # on the bottle. You would know as soon as you opened it if it was gear oil. It would be thick as molassas and smell like ***...
And unless you have an LSD in your tranny(with clutch disks), i've read of great results with the regular(non-friction mod) Synchromesh.
I'd have to say it's safe to save 60% and buy it at Autozone. Not only safe, but smart too....
