Depends on the engine you want and the car you're swapping it into.
Some engines cost more than others; some engines require more parts to install than others; some cars require more parts for an engine swap than others.
Labor could cost just about anything depending where you go; figure at least $65/hour.

He had to have been talking about a 2nd-gen JDM B16A with LSD . . . or a B18C or something. I don't think anyone is stupid enough to pay $4400 to have a 1st-gen JDM B16A installed.

if you were in the phoenix area it would be 3200-3800 installed for a 1st gen swap into a 4th gen civic/crx depending mostly on what had to be replaced.
but definately replace
plugs
wires
waterpump
timing belt
top end gaskets
and if you really can afford it a new distributor ( i have a OBD0 if interested new!)

2200 is an easy price to get it for.
who says water pump , timing belt and head gaskets costs 400 bucks?
you must be nuts! the shop by my house gets all the parts for you.
custom mounts, linkage. they get shop prices from honda on parts.
they replaced my water pump, and timing belt including labor for 250.00.
the shop charges 2200 for a straight b16 swap.
if you want anything extra I.E. water pump/ timing belt you request it
and they only ask you pay for parts. they will put anything you want in for free at the time of the swap (cams, pistons etc.) a b16 swap with new clutch, timing belt, head gasket and water pump ones between 2350-2400. not bad I say.

ok look, you and me know people and can get parts for price.
someone who is just walking into a shop looking for a swap and dosen't have connections is not gonna get quoted the same prices. it's called mark-up, thats how you pay the rent if you are a shop owner. not by hooking people up.
I was just trying to give him a realistic guide for what to expect. and no, I'm not nutz since you asked.

sorry, i meant to put cap and rotor in there as well. but if you can do all that with labor using all new Honda genuine parts at $250, then more power to ya
